In less than a week, we’ll learn which NFL players are headed to Hawaii for the 2008 Pro Bowl game. We all know the obvious candidates: the Tom “Baby Daddy” Bradys, the Adrian “Catch Me If You Can” Petersons, and the Tony “I’m Banging Jessica Simpson” Romos. But which of some of the lesser ballyhooed NFL players deserve a shot at post-post season glory? Furthermore, do any members of the Black and Gold squad deserve a shot on the Pro-Bowl roster?
Below the Chicks break down a few of their underdog Offensive Pro Bowl Picks.
Quarterbacks
AFC:Derek Anderson, Cleveland Browns. The guy’s got 24 Touchdowns on the year (more than Brett Favre), 13 interceptions (same as Peyton Manning), and he’s helping to lead the Browns from AFC oblivion to a legitimate postseason appearance. And he’s doing it without the big name players like Moss and Stallworth.
NFC:Matt Hassleback, SEA: We all know it’ll be Romo and Favre, as well it should be. But let’s say one of them gets busted for dogfighting or shooting outside a strip club over the next week. Then we say, give Hassleback a shot. He’s got one of the highest QB ratings in the NFC, a 61% completion rating, and 3,000 yards on the season.
Wide Receivers:
AFC: Braylon Edwards, CLE-Over 1,000 hard fought yards and 12 TDs.
NFC:Larry Fitzgerald, ARI-Matt Leinart and Kurt Warner have been his QBs, and he’s still got over 1,000 yards and 6 TDs.
Alternate Underdog: Marques Colston, NO: Cause the guy is good. What’s happened this year is not his fault.
Running Backs
AFC:Justin Fargas, OAK-The other #25 is quickly approaching 1,000 yards and averaging nearly 5 yards a carry. All this despite the fact that he plays for Oakland.
NFC: If Brian Westbrook gets overlooked, someone should be shot. The Eagles might still be fighting for their first win at this point of the season if it weren’t for him.
Kickers
AFC:Rob Bironas, TN-He’s clutch and has demonstrated his long kick ability.
NFC: Olindo Mare, NO- Just wanted to see if you were paying attention. We really think Robbie Gould of the Bears deserves consideration.
