Chick Sips/Chick Chow: Dirrrty Bird Dirrrty Whore Martinis & Don’t Drop the Sopa-pillas

Even though the Saints have about as much of a shot at making the playoffs as Lindsay Lohan does at getting an Oscar for “I Know Who Killed Me”, that doesn’t mean the season’s over.  It just means we’ll all need to drink a little heavier to survive the rest of it.  So this Monday night, when the Saints and the Falcons face off in what’s guaranteed to be one of the lowest rated prime time match-ups in history, we plan on partying like it’s the playoffs!

How do you make the best of a game that doesn’t matter?  By celebrating every Saints touchdown with this week’s Chick Sip: “The Dirrrrty Bird, Dirrrrty Whores Martini  And as an extra bonus, you can nibble on our Michael Vick inspired “Don’t Drop the Sopa-pillas.”

Warning: Chick Sips Recipe may cause regrettable drunk dials, sloppy 2nd line dances, and slurred Who Dat chants.

 Dirrrrty Bird, Dirrrrty Whores Martini

1 oz vodka

1 oz Kahlua

Cinnamon Sugar

Hershey’s Chocolate Syrup

Lemon Wedge

Pour vodka and Kahlua into cinnamon sugar-rimmed martini glass.  Pour chocolate syrup inside the upper portion of glass and allow to drip into drink.

To create a sugar-rimmed glass, take a lemon wedge and rub the drinking surface of the glass so it is barely moist. Dip the edge of the glass into sugar

Don’t Drop the Sopa-pillas

2 cups of flour

2 teaspoons of baking powder

1/2 teaspoon of salt

1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon sugar

2 teaspoons of shortening

3/4 cup warm water

Oil for frying

Combine all ingredients.  Stir in warm water gradually to create a crumbly dough.  Place dough on lightly floured surface and knead.  Let dough stand for 15 minutes then cut into squares the shape of soap bars. (Should be about 3 inches)

Heat oil in deep-fryer to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Fry until golden brown on both sides and drain on paper towels.  Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.

Heat 3 tsp. of honey.  (Do not boil.)  Serve on the side.

Makes beaucoup sopapillas!   Bon Appetit!

Sounds goooooooooood — you can either drown your sorrows or celebrate…you know.

Anyway — before you drink too many of them, go to http://www.ohiostatebuckeyes.com/ and vote for LSU. Heck, we’re winning even on the official Buckeyes site!

Another outstanding drink! This will make fine sipping during the long Christmas weekend, and during the 75 bowl games until the main event.

Come to think of it, I’ll probably need it this Monday night.
