1 Down, 7 to Go

Beating the Falcons like they stole something in prime time…it doesn’t get any better than that for a Saints fan.  Except you gotta admit that after a while in last night’s game, bullying stopped being fun.  In fact, it started to feel like we were picking on the retarded kid in class. Oh wait, “retarded” isn’t politically correct.  Let’s say it started to feel like we were picking on the “Dubya-like” kid in class.

The Saints won the game, that’s what matters and their playoff hopes are still alive.  But how much can we really read into a win versus a sorry team that just got the news they’ll be crap-bags for at least the next 2 seasons?  The Falcons were playing like the Peter Petrelli of suck.  They absorbed just about everything that’s sucked about the Saints this year to create one amazing sucking force.

You know a team is terrible when it’s the fourth quarter and not once does “how will the Saints screw this one up” cross my mind.  I’ve never been more cool and collected watching my team play.  I actually considered turning in early, then I remembered what happened against Tampa Bay last week and realized I didn’t trust Payton enough to sleep tight. While it’s hard to truly analyze a game like this, we can say for certain that no matter how bad the Falcons are, this was a confidence building win.  This was the kind of decisive victory we needed heading into this final stretch.

Mark our words…the Vikings will lose another game.  And so long as we take care of business on our end, we’ll be primed for the playoffs.  What happens once we get there, now that my friends is a different story.

Does that make Drew Brees the Noah Bennett of intermittent greatness? Heh.

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but with the abrupt departure of Bobby Petrino, I almost feel sorry for the Falcons. Next thing ya know, the Georgia Dome will be found to have structural problems.
