While sewing in the last strands of yarn on my Vikings voodoo doll, I happened upon a magically delicious realization: The Giants may not make the playoffs. That means the Saints have not one, but two opportunities to sneak in, if they win all their games.
Here’s how it all breaks down: The Giants fell to the Redskins on Sunday night, dropping their record to 9-5. Their next game is against Buffalo, in Buffalo. Might sound like a cakewalk, except for the fact that Buffalo is not a bad team this year and would just love to play spoiler for their New York nemesis. If the Giants fall to 9-6 next week, they’ll be forced to salvage their season in the last game against, of all teams, the Patriots. If the Giants lose that game and end up 9-7 and tied with the Saints, the Saints will have the advantage due to a better conference record.
This theory involves a whole lot of “ifs, thens, and maybes” so it’d probably be a lot easier on everyone if the Vikings would just lose tonight. Then there’s the problem of the Saints having to win their next two games. Both games will be tough as both Philly and Chicago still have a shot at making the playoffs themselves. We can only hope Philly gave everything they’ve got against the Cowboys and will arrive at the Dome overconfident and under-prepared. As for the Bears, Grossman is out, which can be a good or bad thing. After Chicago takes care of the Vikings tonight, here’s hoping the Bears launch into full-on self destruct mode.
As I break all of this down, something else is hitting home: that damn Tampa Bay game. Had we won that (or one of the other six disasters), we’d be sitting pretty right now. But I can’t dwell on the past. It’s time to get focused for tonight’s big game. I’ve only got a few more strands of yarn left to sew. Then it’s time to paint our big red bulls eye, right on #28’s crotch. And as much as we like you Adrian, we won’t be gentle.

Last year I posted this: http://wordnerd1.wordpress.com/2007/01/23/and-this-is-why-ill-never-be-a-bears-fan/
For now, I take it back. Just for now.
Remember we needed a few “if’s, then’s, maybe’s” for LSU to be where they are..
I’m every bit as up for tonight’s game as I was for yesterday’s. Red beans are on the stove, spirits are sliding down my esophagus, almost feels like it’s the Saints playing tonight.
I was planning to point out the Giants angle today, but after a tragic mishap with the back button, I don’t guess that post is gonna be finished until sometime tomorrow.
Not that you didn’t beat me to the punch anyway. As usual.
This is going to end painfully. Damn that ill-fated reverse! Damn it to hell! And Jeff Garcia’s assless chaps. Damn them to hell as well.
@ wordnerd: i totally feel you on that. rooting for the bears is like punching myself in the gut after a night out drinking tequila. it just doesn’t make sense. but for the greater good of my boys, i’ll do what i gotta do.
@ gw: i too have fallen victim to the curse of the back button. and thank you, as always, for highlighting “gaycia’s” ever fabulous ways.
@ shoeaddict: you’re so right, this could be my year of miracles. first i was on the price is right, then lsu beat the odds and made it to the ncg. if the saints get into the playoffs and make a super bowl run, i may have to donate all my money to charity as my life will have exceeded its capacity for awesomeness.
I don’t think the Giants are losing out.
@ you: OMG YOU WERE ON PRICE IS RIGHT?????? How utterly effin’ cool!!!!!
damn jake, you’re heavy on the haterade this week!
i need u to send out some positive thoughts.
@ wordnerd: indeed my friend. It was bob barker’s final week of tapings and by the grace of God I made it on to that grand stage and under those bright neon lights. When the seasons over and I have no football to rant about, I’ll post it so we can all get a good chuckle.
I don’t want to just hear the story. I want to see the footage. I just know you recorded it. I know I’m not the only one around here who wants to see it. Youtube!
