Aw Hell to the No!!!
The 2008 Pro Bowl Roster is set and guess who ain’t on the list? Here’s a hint, they wear black and gold, they cause frequent bouts of anxiety, and are responsible for my future stint in rehab. (If you’re still confused, you should probably just stop reading now.)
Sadly, not nary a Saint is going to Hawaii. Can’t say I really expected any of them to, with the exception of my future baby daddy, the man who catches passes like he caught my heart, Daddy Long Legs himself: Marques “Go-Go-Gadget Arms” Colston. Wanna know who’s going instead at wide reciever for the NFC? Terrell Owens, Larry Fitzgerald, Torry Holt, & Donald Driver. To that I say: “Aw Hell to the No!”
Perhaps the omission wouldn’t be so stinging if Colston wasn’t the second ranked receiver in the NFC with 87 receptions for 1,092 yards and 9 touchdowns. Wanna know who’s got better numbers than that? Not T.O., not Fitzy, not Torry, or even Donald. Jason Witten, a TIGHT END, is first in receptions with 88.
Alright, so we all knew T.O. was going. As for the Packers, I would have predicted Greg Jennings over Donald Driver, but whatever. Fitzy had fewer receptions and touchdowns than Colston but kicked ass in receiving yards and yards after the catch. But as for you Torry Holt, you can take your laughable 83 receptions, measly 1,055 yards, and 7 pathetic TDs and stick em up your Bulger.
This is an outrage, nay, a travesty. Colston was the only Saint that actually deserved a Pro Bowl experience and he got the shaft. Only one thing will ease the pain of this snub: a chance to see Colston taking part in that other big game going on out West in early February. Oh yeah…you know what I’m talking ‘bout…

Alright, my babies. You have been DISSED. You should get PISSED. We need REVENGE! Take it out on the entire NFL, my peeps. HIT IT. HIT IT HARD!
Preach it Saintseester! The guys need to use this as even more motivation and smack the crap outta the Iggles!
The Pro Bowl’s a joke anymore.
But I don’t see a problem at all with Torry Holt anymore. He played for the most injured team in the NFL — he was even injured himself, unsure of what his playing level could expand to after off-season knee surgery in 2007, he came into the year looking to perform his best.
He wasn’t even 80% this year.
Still yet, he went over 1,000 yards receiving this year for the eighth consecutive year. Even though I don’t view him as the best wide out in the NFL anymore — or at the moment — but he’s still the most damn consistent receiver I’ve seen over the last 10 years.
Holt definitely had a good season. but he shouldn’t get brownie points for playing with an injury. Colston leads the NFC in nearly ever WR stat category. Beyond that, he’s one of the more consistent receivers in the NFL. If anything, he should get points for being a sophmore in the league with the ability to scare the bee-jeezus out of corners.
I’m not taking anything away from Colston or denying that he should be in the Pro Bowl. I’m just refuting your statement, “But as for you Torry Holt, you can take your laughable 83 receptions, measly 1,055 yards, and 7 pathetic TDs and stick em up your Bulger.”
I’m not giving Holt points for the fact he wasn’t even 80% this year, I’m giving him points because had to play portentiously throughout the season with the team gyrating through Quarterbacks (Bulger — a 37-year-old Gus Frerotte — a rookie that hadn’t played football since at Miami University in 2005 (Brock Berlin)). That, and the fact that the offensive line had changed lineman 18 times throughout the season is riveting. . . in the wrong way.
I give Holt points because he was not only keeping up his stats and being the team MVP, learning from arguably the best route runner of all time (Isaac Bruce; or, Bruce is second to Rice in the route runner category; even now, the homer in me could make cases for Bruce and Holt being among the best route runners in the NFL today) by taking the time in the fundamental of the technique to step near the sideline and fake out the defensive back, but also concurrently doing it through adversity of frivolous injuries and BAD coaching.
I wrote an article on Torry Holt in August 2006 — I didn’t intend for it to be an article, but I eventually made it into one. I intentionally wrote it on a message board in reply to this one guy that said Holt wasn’t even a top 10 WR in the NFL. Sure, the title is about Holt being the best receiver in the league, but take it for what it’s worth. I certainly don’t think the same at the moment (Moss, the true NFL MVP, IMO, amazed me this year), but I still am one of the biggest Torry Holt ‘homers’ on the web — I’m an honest guy. It’s a long, long read. Probably one of the longest tenured articles I’ve kept ahold of to modify. Here’s a link:

Oh….now I get it. You made the mistake of mis-interpreting my smart-ass tone. You see, I did the research and noted that Holt’s stats were not too far off Colston. My issue, however, is that Colston’s was better. And beyond that, he managed to overcome Drew Brees’ inconsistencies. I’ve watched football long enough to know that Holt is a world class player. But that doesn’t mean that I agree he deserved the vote over Colston. In the end, the Pro Bowl is a b/s popularity contest and it’s only real purpose is to potentially injure on of my team’s players in a game that doesn’t even matter, so it all probably worked out for the best anyways…
I don’t put too much emphasis on the Pro Bowl anymore because of that. I was extremely disappointed that the Rams’ OJ Atogwe, Will Witherespoon and Donnie Jones were left off (Atogwe and Witherspoon, especially).
To each’s own, though.
