Playing for Pride Payback

It’s not the season ender we expected back in August. The New Orleans Saints are playing for 8-8 and scrambling to stay in the playoff hunt. The Chicks would have been drinking through the season no matter what but some of the disturbing disappointments in ‘07 forced us to imbibe more than we normally would have and mix things we definitely shouldn’t have.
Still our boys didn’t give up after starting with four straight losses and they’ve kept the season interesting through all sixteen games. So we march back into Soldier Field on Sunday seeking to avenge our loss there last January while hoping for losses by the Vikings and the Redskins to put us into postseason play. The Chicks will toast the Saints on Sunday win or lose!
Ready for 2 Boilermakers?
Webtender’s Recipe for Boilermakers: 2 ounce shot of Canadian whiskey. 10 ounces of cold Beer in a mug. Carefully drop shot glass into mug. Kyle Orton followed in the impressive footsteps of Drew Brees back at Purdue. Brees helped recruit Orton to play for the Boilermakers. Kyle Orton now follows in the not so impressive footsteps of Rex Grossman and Brian Griese in Chicago. Brees had a tough week against the Eagles while Orton had a notable win over the Packers. Orton’s been given the thumbs up by Lovie Smith after starting two games and is possibly in consideration for a longer stay in the Windy City. No one expects to see Wrecks Grossman back in a Bears’ uniform next season.
Now Ready for A Few Shots of Hurts You Right Here?
Webtender’s Recipe for Hurts You Right Here: Combine 1 shot of Aftershock and 1 shot of Goldschlager. Some Saints’ players have sustained some painful injuries this season including Deuce McAllister and Reggie Bush. Last week Marques Colston was knocked out of the game with a chest contusion that had him spitting up blood, Mike McKenzie tore his ACL during the dash to recover Donovan McNabb’s fumble early in the first quarter and Jamaal Branch fractured his right leg during coverage on the opening kickoff. McKenzie and Branch are now on injured reserve with a long off season of recovery and rehab. Colston is hoping to return to the field on Sunday against the Bears.
We’re All Ready for An Iced Bear
Webtender’s Recipe for Iced Bear: 1 part Blue Curacao, 2 parts Vodka and Soda Water. Mix Vodka and Curacao. Pour in a high glass. Fill it up with soda. A win on Sunday against the Bears doesn’t at all guarantee that the Saints will get into the playoffs. But it will guarantee that Saints fans everywhere will go into 2008 with a little smile of satisfaction and a small feeling of payback. It won’t make up for everything we’ve endured this season but it would certainly be enough to make the off season more tolerable.
Chicks Prediction: Saints 17 – Bears 10

We must break them.
Good Luck!
ASANTE SAMUEL!!!!!
AND 20-10, (two things you need to know)
Lance Briggs TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I found it interesting how Payton threw Steve Weatherford under the bus in the post game because Hester ran a kick back for a score. Even though the Saints lost by 8, and people will say if he kicked out of bounds, that TD may not be scored, I look at it like this:
The inability to convert 3rd and 4th downs, especially in Chicago territory, killed New Orleans. Failing to tackle Garrett Wolfe on a 3rd and 27 screen pass that goes for 32 yards thwarted New Orleans.
On the punt that Hester ran back, the hang time was FIVE seconds. There was ample time for New Orleans to cover the kick, as it was near the sideline. Special teams consist of eleven players, and to single out just one, to me is a weak effort on Payton’s part.
First, I DO expect to see Rex Grossman back in a Bears uniform next year, but that’s probably just the hopeless romantic in me talking. Too bad you guys didn’t pull it out. It was a great game despite the fact that both teams have fallen since last season.
So I’m sober now and can fully take in this insightful commentary.
For me, it was kinda like getting a root canal with a rusty, sewage soaked drill, but that’s just me. I think the Bears and the Saints will be fine in ‘08. (Wait a minute, there’s a chance I could still be drunk…)
@ Jake: Asante Samuel’s free agency is awesome and all, but I don’t see it happening. Would love for it to, but I just don’ think it will.
@ Chris: Totally agree with you. That game boiled down to more than just one play. And my whole thing is, if you can’t convert on those big 3rd and 4th down plays or stop the Bears offense for the love of God, then you deserve to watch the Super Bowl from your couch.
@ Shea: Well, the Game was good if you were pulling for the Bears.
