New-per Bowl
Our emotions about this year’s Super Bowl match-up: “Ugh” and “Eh.” It’s the New England Patriots and the New York Giants in a battle of two teams with the word “New” in their names. Other than that fascinating fact, we’ll all get to suffer through the next two weeks hearing about the Pats quest for perfection and Eli Manning’s quest for redemption. Yippee!!
We must admit, midway through the NFC Championship we started shifting our alliances. At first, it was Pack all the way. Then, that underdog spirit in us got fired up. We looked into the “piercing” gaze of Antonio, the fed up a-hole glare of Plaxico, and the puppy dog eyes of Elisha and couldn’t help but want the Giants to pull through. That missed Giants field goal in the final seconds of the fourth quarter almost felt like a punch in the gut. Watching that third try float straight through the middle of the uprights in overtime left us walking on air. We haven’t been that emotional since week 15 of regular season. It was good to feel something again. It felt good to care.
Analysts and bookies alike give the Giants a snowball’s chance in hell at winning the Super Bowl. But we’re cool with those odds. After all, those same people never thought the Saints could make the postseason after an 0-4 start. Oh wait a minute…
Meanwhile, we want to take this opportunity to send our love to Brett Favre. What a freakin’ man! He didn’t need to make it to the big dance for his season (and possibly career) to end on a high note. In fact, they should make him the spokesperson for the anti-ageism committee. We salute you Silver Bullet! (Not as in the sex toy but as in a gray haired dude with a gun of an arm.)
Two weeks until Super Bowl 42 and then football goes bye-bye. Will someone pass us a bucket of morphine before the pain sets in?

You know Brett has some good hands, too. Um.
And as for football being over, now I can sit around and cry that Andruw isn’t returning to the Braves. Who am I going to find to love with a happy boyish grin in the outfield. First Raphael leaves us, and now Andruw.
I suppose I can find someone to ogle, I mean cheer for.
As much I love Super Bowl Sunday, I don’t want it to get here…because that means football will be over. Thank god for the All Star game! As for our Saints…there’s always next year.
For me, the Super Bowl this year will be different because it won’t matter to me who wins — the Patriots’ roster boasts a lot of LSU alum, and the Giants have have my heart after last night’s game as well as Corey Webster and Mr. AwShucks. It’ll be fun to watch.
Who will win the Super Bowl?
Patriots, no doubt
The Giants may have the Cinderella story line, but come on, how are they going to beat the Hoodie?
Bill Belichick’s Patriots have defeated every single team they have played, and the Super Bowl shouldn’t be any different.
Tom Brady led the NFL in the regular season in quarterback rating (117.2), touchdowns (a season record 50), and passing yards (4,806).
But to beat the Patriots, you have to do a lot more than rattle Brady (a lesson the Chargers learned Sunday).
To beat the Patriots, you have to hold the ball for 45 minutes, and you have to score touchdowns, not field goals.
To beat the Patriots, you have to run for 150-plus yards on a defense that only allows an average of 80, and you have to do it early, because if you don’t, you are going to be behind.
To beat the Patriots, you have to be healthy. The Giants currently have three defensive backs and one offensive lineman nursing injuries.
To beat the Patriots, you have do all these things and get a couple of breaks, and even then, it’s not a sure thing.
To beat the Patriots, you have to be, in a sense, perfect; which is exactly what New England has been all season long.
Why Pats will win it all.
The Patriots and Giants have met eight times in the regular season, with New England holding a 5-3 advantage. And, the Patriots have won the past four, all of them tight games.
