The Little Kicker that Could

Get ready for more Martin.  The Saints have decided to keep curly-haired kicker Martin Grammatica on the roster for training camp.  He’ll compete for the permanent kicking job against Olindo Mare.  (Considering I could probably out-kick Ocrapo with both legs tied to a bear trap, we’re thinking Martin might be a shoe-in for the gig.)

We’d like to think this doesn’t mean the Saints have given up on looking for other kickers in the off-season.  While Martin did a great job as a fill in toward the end of the 2007 season, we’re not confident he’s got the range or the consistency to be our long term solution.  Is it worth looking into a rookie kicker at this point?  Hard to say.  What we know for certain is that we’re in no way sold on Lil Man.

I’ll Bite: Olindo was good in the second half of the year, see if he starts ‘08 the same way he started ‘07.

To Comment: Especially in a year where everyone thought that the NFC was competing to see who wanted to be embarrassed more on February 3rd.
