Hey Now, You’re an All-Star

It’s All-Star weekend in New Orleans…yay!!! Get ready for a weekend of 3-point shots and gun shots (if it’s anything like last year’s All-Star game in Vegas) as the NBA’s best and brightest roll into town. While the thugs polish their pistols, the Hollywood D-listers are preparing to put their best feet forward at the annual NBA All-Star celebrity game. We’re talking the likes of 2006 American Idol Winner Taylor Hicks, AJ Calloway from “EXTRA,” WNBA player Swin Cash, and the totally irrelevant Zac Gilford of “Friday Night Lights.” Oh, and Alyssa Milano will be there coaching one of the celebrity teams, a.k.a pimping her new sports related clothing line. (All together now: “Ugh!”)

Here’s what we can’t wait to see:

1) The Slam Dunk Contest- Nothing’s better than watching these grown ass men act like 7th graders on a playground after a nasty dunk. We love guessing who’ll be the most creative, what kind of props they’ll incorporate, and who’ll attempt a potentially life threatening move just so the crowd can respond “Ooooohhh!!!!”

2) The 3-Point Shoot Out- Jason Kapono of the Toronto Raptors is out to defend his title. Last year he scored a whopping 24 points in the final round. This year’s shootout competitors include the alien faced (yet astoundingly phenomenal) Steve Nash and winner of the reality TV challenge “America’s Next Top Serbian”, Peja Stojakovic.

3) A Sold Out Crowd- Butts will actually be in the seat for a nationally televised game at New Orleans Arena. Too bad only one Hornet will actually get a chance to take to the court. (Sigh.)

What’s most exciting about this weekend? New Orleans gets to make some more money. Millions are expected to be pumped into the economy thanks to the 3-day fan fest. Not only that, people are spending their time in Hurricane Katrina ravaged neighborhoods as part of the NBA Cares volunteer effort. Unlike Mardi Gras, people aren’t just coming to New Orleans for an alcohol induced orgy. They’re coming to make a positive impact on the community… before they start puking their brains out and getting impregnated on Bourbon St. NBA Action…fantastic!

Below are some Slam Dunk Moments to get you in the mood.

Well, kudos to the NBA for helping to support the city. That is good.

OK, whatever, so now can we, for once, return the favor.

Should be focusing on the excitement the sport brought anyway!!!!!!!!!!
