Hit it and Quit it Tuesdays

That’s right folks, it’s been far too long. But with the return of football season comes the return of my favorite CITH column: Hit it and Quit it Tuesdays. Let the “hits” and “quits” begin…

Hit It!

My main man Deuuuuuuuccccceeeee!!!!!!!!! (aka the “Comeback Kid) You returned to the field like the stallion you are. You showed spurts of your old, powerful self. You produced positive yardage EVERY time you touched the ball. And you made us Saints fans believe that while your best days may be behind you, there’s still plenty of “Deuce Magic” stored in that tank. Welcome back Dulymus.

Quit it!

I refuse to waste another second of energy on you #42. Refer to this. And this… oh, and this new petition asking for you to go bye-bye.

Hit it!

Bless your heart Mark Brunell. And I don’t say that to be facetious like old, Southern women do. I really mean it. 10 of 12 for 119 yards in Week 1 and 5 of 8 for 84 yards and a touchdown in Week 2. Seriously, bless your sweet, sweet, heart.

Quit it!

What’s happening up front, defense? I mean, thanks to the ole “Texas Toast” that took place in the secondary, you’re not getting so much attention. But let it be noted that I’m highly concerned about the eternity of time Matt Schaub seemed to have in the pocket and the way we couldn’t seem to convincingly shut down the run. I mean, we let the Texans rack up more than 400 yards of offense. WTF?! If I weren’t so drunk while watching the game, I would have raised an eyebrow at your performance. Instead, I just focused on sitting up straight.

Hit it!

Marques Colston, only you could pull of that acrobatic, one-handed touchdown catch and make it look easy. No crazy end zone dance. No staged celebration. Just a solid player doing his job and not making a big deal about it. Man do I wanna suck face with you!

Quit it!

C’mon offense..what’s up with the breakdown in the red zone? I mean, 3 and out on the first drive? We get the ball back on the 10 on a fumble recovery and we can’t punch it in? Allow me to throw up in my mouth a little bit…(Sorry Marques, didn’t mean to do that mid-imaginary face suckage…)

Meanwhile, anybody think we can convince Usain Bolt to join our secondary? That man is freakin’ sick!

Hell, >>I<< want to suck face with Colston. (Was that out loud? Shit.) Dude is a beast among beasts.

Hear me now and put a dunce cap on me later, but after watching the game yesterday, I’m not nearly as worried about the pass rush as the comments from people who watched it live led me to believe I should be. I think we’re gonna be fine upfront just as soon as the bullets start flying for real.

Red zone: Shockey and Dulymus will help, and I hope that Coach Payton also helps by going back to (what I perceived to be) a general strategy that started to take hold in the second half of 2006, but faded in 2007… the Saints’ version of the red zone ought to start at the 30 or 35. To use a basketball analogy, the Saints’ offense ought not be posting up down in the paint. This offense ought to be raining threes. Soon as they get inside the 35, they ought to start taking regular shots at the end zone.

Jesus, I didn’t know that there was a petition to get David out of town. I wonder if he knows
