Can This Man Save Us?

Jaguars Camp Football

The Saints have hired former Redskins and Jaguars defensive coordintor Gregg Williams to take our embattled defense from among the worst to among the first. It’s a move that’s sure to get mixed reviews from the outspoken black and gold nation. If you don’t know crap about this guy, here’s a quick recap.

Washington Redskins Defensive Coordinator (2004-2007)
–Led the Skins’ defensive team to top 3 in the NFL between 2004 & 2005. :-)
–Ranking dropped to 30th in 2006. :-(
–Moved defense back to the top 10 in 2007 :-) but got canned after Joe Gibbs retired. :-(

Jacksonville Jaguars Defensive Coordinator (2007-2008)
–The Jags ended the season ranked 17th overall
–The Jags ranked 24th in pass defense
–The Jags ranked 13th in run defense

Not exactly numbers that have us breathing a sigh of relief, but we’re willing to give him the opportunity to prove himself before bashing him as I’m sure many bloggers and fans have already started to do.

The Saints big whigs know that if the team’s defense fails to improve next season, the ax will fall much harder and much higher next time around, so I’d like to think they put a lot of thought into this selection.

So what do you think? Is Gregg our guy?

I think the pickins are slim in the defensive coordinator availability. Just look at all the college teams that are juggling to find good ones, too.

yes; judging strickly on your choice of photo, no.
