Safety First

The biggest surprise from the Saints so far this draft? There were no surprises. All the experts and non-experts predicted Malcolm Jenkins would get scooped up in round 1 and so he did…and thank heavens.

There are those among us who wanted to see Chris Wells, (the Cardinals inevitable choice) join our offense to give Reggie Bush a little support. Clearly those people overlooked the talent of a certain PT Bruiser, aka Pierre Thomas. Others hoped upon hope for an outside linebacker to compliment the talent of MLB Jon Vilma. Those people weren’t entirely off base.

But no matter what you wanted or expected, Malcolm Jenkins is who we’ve got. And as a Saints fan, it’s our duty to love on him like a cold margarita from Allegro Bistro on a steamy September night during the countdown to a Monday Night game. Oh so refreshing.

Jenkins, an Ohio State cornerback, will undoubtedly be squeezed into a safety role. Here’s hoping that unlike former Saints safety Kevin Kaesviharn, he’ll actually follow an assignment. And here’s hoping that unlike former Saints safety Josh Bullocks, he won’t be complete garbage.

Oh wait…that’s mean. Um, here’s hoping he won’t be garbage-esque. Better?

This first draft pick solidifies what we already knew; the Saints mean business when it comes to rebuilding their defense this offseason. We’ve got a new defensive coordinator in Gregg Williams, secondary upgrades in the forms of Darren Sharper, Jabari Greer, Pierson Prioleau and Malcolm Jenkins and we resigned Jon Vilma. What more could you ask for people?

Oh…I know what you want. You want a shored up front four or linebacker corps, don’t you? Well…that’s what day 2 of the draft is all about. Let’s see what happens with that 4th round pick.

In unrelated news, did anyone else see Knowshon Moreno’s kin folk with her ass crack hanging out. Talk about a “draft”! Ick!
