Mickey & Mini: Will the Saints’ Mini-Camp prove Loomis is a genius?

saints-camp-payton-huddleYou can almost smell the banned substances seeping through the veins of our defensive ends. Must be mini-camp weekend down in N’awlins! Here’s our chance to meet, greet (and mock) all the team’s new offseason pick-ups and evaluate the progress of our veterans.

There’s no denying GM Mickey Loomis spearheaded some controversial if not eyebrow raising moves to rebuild the Saints’ defense and plug holes in the Saints’ offense. There’s the decision to give Deuce Mcallister the boot along with fullback Mike Karney and veteran cornerback Mike McKenzie. And what about that whole “drafting a punter” thingy that got everyone’s black and gold panties in a bunch? Sure Mickey’s not the only one calling the plays behind the scenes for the Saints but he’s the one likely to take the bulk of the heat if the team cranks out another 16 weeks of mediocrity .

Mickey’s also the man who helped us land Ohio State standout Malcolm Jenkins and promising running back Herb Donaldson. And lest we forget exciting free agency additions like cornerbacks Jabari Greer and Darren Sharper. Oh there are just so many people to watch out for this weekend!!shockey-vegas

Will wide receiver Robert Meachem impress Drew Brees and the gang as much as he did at OTA’s a couple weeks back? Will new defensive coordinator Gregg Williams pull off his best impersonation of Lou Gossett Jr. in “An Officer and a Gentleman” to prove he’s ruling the team with an iron fist? (If so, who’s playing the part of ‘Mayo-naze”? Jenkins almost seems like a no-brainer, right?) And who wants to place bets on whether Jeremy Shockey’s gatorade cups will be inspected for traces of Coors Light in an effort to prevent another “dehydration” episode?

It’s mini-camp weekend people! Mini-camp!! And I’ve got a feeling we’re in for some major surprises!
