Let’s get our minicamp on–Part 1

minicamp1The first day of sexy, sweaty, sometimes shirtless, spandex clad butts running around Bills minicamp wrapped yesterday and the emphasis was on a no-huddle offense. As my girl Chelsea Handler would say, “I like it, I like it a lot.” What’s so thrilling about a no-huddle offense that can get Bills Chick riled up on this cloudy, sluggish day? Well, it’s the tactic legendary Bills QB Jim Kelly was the king of. That can mean only one thing, which is that this team is serious about revamping their style to become AFC East and NFL contendors–if kickin’ it Buffalo old school (well, ’90s style) is how they’re doing it, so be it.

No-huddle offense means quick turnarounds that put more power in Trent Edwards’ hands to call plays. This should work well as he seeks to prove himself as a viable QB…and gives him more freedom to communicate with his offense and find what plays work.

“Highlights” (if you can really call them that):

Random, “artificial” noise was blasted during periods of practice for players to get used to game day atmosphere.

Rookie LB Nic Harris is set to start against the Patriots on Monday night football, our season opener. He’s excited and willing to work hard to prove himself. Congrats, I know someone who would love to celebrate with you!

Marshawn Lynch didn’t practice but was on the sidelines watching.

Roscoe Parrish fielded punts with Dominic Rhodes and Bruce Hall…but spent much of practice with ice on his right leg. Fabulous.

Rookie Jairus Byrd wasn’t present because the NFL prohibits rookies from reporting to practice until final exams are given; Oregon isn’t finished until June 12.

The boys went to learn how to handle a 5-foot half Chinese half Italian Bills Chick touting a handmade chicksinthehuddle.com press pass, should she ever break on to the field or follow them to a downtown Buffalo bar mandatory media training immediately after practice. Stay tuned for minicamp day 2 notes and peep a detailed account of the days here.

Let’s go Buff-a-lo!
