Well, Mother Hen, I hope those “shrimpy Stafford bites” were delicious. I hope you and Nola Chick reallllyyyy enjoyed them.
Here’s what I enjoyed (It isn’t much):
-Reggie Bush’s inability to hold on to the ball. (Two fumbles, and a third that was a fumble to everyone but the officials.)
-Rookie Louis Delmas making a couple of plays in the secondary, inlcuding an interception that he ran in for a touchdown.
And that’s about it. The rest of the story consists of turnovers, a few penalties and failure to capitalize on golden opportunities. Even in the second quarter when Dennis Northcutt returned a punt to within the 20, the Lions couldn’t turn that great field position into a touchdown. The defense put ZERO pressure on Drew Brees, and with a QB like that, you can’t give him that much time in the pocket.
Don’t think I forgot about some very questionable playcalling that took place in the Superdome on Sunday. Like in the third quarter, when the refs called back a 64-yard touchdown by Calvin Johnson, claiming that he stepped out of bounds. But we can’t blame the refs for Stafford’s interceptions, or the fact that he kept throwing the ball like Calvin was 9 feet tall. Or the fact that Darren Sharper was all over us like flies on… you know.
We did some things well. Kevin Smith is relentless, but it didn’t translate into moving the ball down the field. Special teams had some good coverages and a couple of good returns. It wasn’t the worst game I’ve ever seen, but we need to establish some consistency before the Vikings come to town for our home opener next week. I’ve been there, hearing the Lions get booed by their own fans in Ford Field. It’s unnerving. But at this point, the Favre is more of a laughingstock than a threat.
*gulp* I hope.

Yes, Lions Chick, the appetizers were delicious and the perfect starter to the season. And, don’t get too upset, Stafford had great composure and you will surely be able to win a game at some point this season. Yet, as Nola Chick said, not on our watch….
Who dat!
hang in there…13games to go….
