Who she is: Jennifer Wicks, the new female announcer/spokesperson for ABC in Chicago’s Sunday morning football show “Chicago Huddle.” She shares the role with another Sideline Sexy, Shae Peppler.
How her interest in football began: Although Wicks grew up in Evanston, Illinois, it didn’t make her an automatic Bears fan or even a football fan for that matter. But, that all changed when she went away to school at one of the biggest football colleges out there. “The emphasis was on the Bulls [growing up]. I was more of a basketball fan, but then I went to Florida State.”
What made her audition for her new gig: Wicks is a Ford model but she was looking for a new challenge career-wise. “I’ve done some tv work but not in a role of this nature where I’m required to bring my personality to the job, memorize lines and work as part of a team.”
Dream segment on the show: A cooking segment! “I love to cook. If I can cook with the fans or the players or have a cook off or maybe if we found the biggest fan in Chicago and I went to their home and cooked something!” Her signature dish? Either Dijon mustard coated lamb chops with cumin or tilapia with bread and yellow peppers in a wine butter sauce.
Favorite current player: Brett Favre. “Not only because he’s a great player but he’s proven to so many people that he’s still got it. You can say what you want [but I say] play until you can’t play anymore.”
Most surprising thing about the new job: Being a good luck charm! It seems Johnny Knox, Nick Roach and Kellen Davis all had great games after appearing on the show. Hmmm….I know what all the Chicks are thinking right now.
Best thing about the game: The unpredictability! “When I’m watching a game, I always remember [the movie] Any Given Sunday. You may think you have it wrapped up but anything can happen.”
