Peyton Manning and the Colts look to stay unbeaten when they host Alex Smith and the 49ers on Sunday at Lucas Oil Field. Finally! A team with wins. After easily beating the winless Titans and Rams the Colts might actually have to play football. 49ers head coach Mike Singletary is giving the ball to Alex Smith who stepped in for an injured Shaun Hill in last week’s game against the Texans. Manning and Smith ,both number one draft picks, have had vastly different NFL careers. Manning is looking to lead his team back to the Super Bowl while Smith is just happy to be playing again.
Manning is playing at Pro Bowl level averaging 313.3 yards passing, throwing for 15 touchdowns and leading the league with a 114.5 passer rating- all without Marvin Harrison and Anthony Gonzalez. Heck he even has a defense to back him up. Passing defense that is. But the run defense remains a work in progress. Indy is allowing 4.3 yards per carry, though it has played four of the league’s top nine rushers. Frank Gore is next in line, and he has something to prove after returning from an ankle injury and producing just 32 yards rushing last week at Houston. The Colts defense allowed Steven Jackson Waldo to rack up 134 yards last week. Trust me Colts- Frank Gore is better. With the recently signed Michael Crabtree and Vernon Davis returning to form the 49ers are looking to turn their season around. Unfortunately they’re playing the Colts…in Indy.

Welcome back to the league Alex. Now you get to play Dwight Freeney and the second ranked scoring defense. Oh and they’re ninth overall.Good luck buddy!
