When you’re born and raised a Saints fan, 3 things are inevitable.
1) You will be diagnosed with high blood pressure by age 16.
2) Your liver will shrink to the size of a chestnut due to excessive alcohol intake
3) With every fiber of your being, you will loathe with a blinding rage the Atlanta Falcons
The history between the Saints and Falcons dictates a loathsome relationship. For decades they coexisted as the dog teams of the league with the common thread of being southern and sucky. Well, the latter of those has now changed, for one of us at least. The Saints are at the top of the conference, one of only two remaining undefeated teams. The Falcons, well…their record says they’re okay but we Saints fans know better. Our plan is to expose them for the sham pigeons they are come Monday night in the Superdome. Oh yeah, we’re gonna devour dem dirty birds like a 2 piece special from Popeyes.
How will we do it? Hmmm…perhaps how won’t we do it is a better question. The Saints are too solid and too proud of a team to blemish their record against a division rival. They’re riding the wave of a dramatic and emotional comeback victory over the Dolphins. They owe the Falcons an ass kicking from last season. Oh…and did I mention we hate them?
The Falcons are as inconsistent as the Saints are solid. Atlanta looked like a Pop Warner squad against the Cowboys. And against the Pats? Well, they proved “they are who we thought they were.” Sure they’ve got some talent on the roster and yes, Matt Ryan has proven himself to be an accurate and at times poised quarterback. But I know Drew Brees. I slapped hands with Drew Brees. I stalked Drew Brees. Matt Ryan, you sir are no Drew Brees. Something tells me his top receiver on Monday night will be none other than my future baby daddy, Darren Sharper.
What have the Falcons done to even prove they’re contenders…other than manhandling the hapless 49ers? Nothing. Absolutely nada. Sure they’ll play the Saints tough because it’s a division game and they don’t want to further widen the gap. But tough just won’t be enough against the boys in black and gold. We don’t play for pride. We play with purpose.
Bless the Falcons little hearts though. And by bless their hearts, I mean may they rot in sewage.
