I must say I held my breath as Kris Brown lined up for a 42 yard field goal that would tie the Colts and Texans at the end of regulation. I wasn’t scared that the Colts would drop out of the ranks of the unbeaten. I wasn’t scared that our playoff hopes were dashed. I was simply afraid of having to explain that yes…the Colts lost to the Texans at home.
With the Colts win streak on the line Brown knocked the field goal wide left as time expired and the boys in blue remain unbeaten. Exhale! All is right in Indy. The Colts now hold a commanding 3 1/2-game lead in the AFC South over second-place Houston and is 3-0 against its division rivals. Not only did Sunday’s game place the Colts in the driver seat it was downright HISTORIC!
In the 20-17 win over the Texans:
* The Colts became the fourth team in league history with 17 straight regular-season wins.
* The Colts extended their win streak at home to 10 straight and have won 14 of 15 all-time against the Texans.
* Jim Caldwell became the NFL’s first rookie coach to start 8-0 since 1930.
* Peyton Manning tied Hall of Famer Fran Tarkenton for fourth in career victories with 125 W’s.
* He also became the first player in league history to throw for 40,000 yards in one decade. Not career…not 15 years…a DECADE!
* Manning threw 25 passes in the first quarter, the most in an opening quarter since 1991.
* Dallas Clark caught 14 passes, the third-highest single-game total by an NFL tight end.
* Reggie Wayne moved past Hall of Famer Raymond Berry and into second on the Colts’ career reception list with his 8 receptions Sunday.
* Dwight Freeney extended his streak of consecutive games with a sack to nine. The NFL record is 10.
Phew! I got tired just typing all that! The Colts now look to face the New England Cheaters Rule Changers Crybabies Patriots next Sunday. All I can say is BRING IT…oh and refs- BE MEN! Don’t let Tom Brady tell you how to do your job.
I’m now awaiting my fine from the NFL.
