Last week we weren’t a great football team; we were a good football team.
After Sunday’s loss to the 0-7 Tampa Bay Buccaneers, I think it’s safe to say the football we’re playing right now is not even classified as good.
Aaron Rodgers had a tough game, going 17-of-35 for 266 yards, with two touchdowns and a season-high three interceptions. The Packers outgained Tampa Bay in total yards 404 to 279, yet we still lost with a whopping 38-28 defeat.
I don’t even know how to address the six sacks he had to endure in the second half… Since it’s a weekly problem, I think we’re all getting a little weary of talking about. “It has to stop,” said Mike McCarthy in his post game interview. “You can’t sit here and keep taking sacks…I’m tired of talking about it. It’s something that’s been coached, something that’s been trained, and it keeps showing up on Sundays. You look at Tampa Bay’s quotes all week, that’s all they talked about was sacking the quarterback, and it happened again today. It has to end. We cannot continue to have the numbers that we have in the sacks.”
After allowing 154 yards of field position in the Vikings game, you’d think the special teams would clean up their act, but advantageous field position was a primary issue contributing to this week’s loss.
Disappointment is truly the only word that comes to mind when thinking about this Green Bay team. With a 4-4 record, any hopes for a shining season are now permanently crushed.
The fate of this season’s Packer team is seemingly uncertain at the moment with the second place position in the NFC North still open. Gone are our hopes of a divisional win, and seemingly, the hope for a Wildcard may be shot too. With Dallas and San Francisco on the docket in the next two weeks, right now, all Packer fans can hope for are respectable wins at home.
They better get practicing. After this weekend, I think it’s safe to say that no match-up will be a walk in the park again. Plain and simple.
