For those of us wondering what happened to the Saints team we saw in the first six weeks of the season, we can call off the search party. They’ve been spotted at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. Witness say they were armed and dangerous.
The 38-7 butt whipping the Saints put on the Buccaneers on Sunday is more comforting than it is surprising. We all knew they had it in them. We just weren’t sure when they’d bring it back. Since destroying the Giants in Week 6, the Saints have competed in nail-biting battles against much less talented teams. All of us fans found ourselves in a frantic search for brown paper bags, not to put over our heads, but to breathe into as the Saints nearly blemished their perfect record against the likes of St. Louis. But in the battle with Tampa Bay, the Saints decided to get back to their dominant ways, attacking the team on every side of the football.
Poor little Josh Freeman, who looks more like an American Idol contestant than an NFL quarterback, had one good drive. But after letting the Bucs score in the first quarter, the Saints defense showed no mercy. Freeman ended the day with 126 yards and 3 picks. Ouch! As for the Saints offense, Brees made good on his pledge to protect the football and the running game exploded, with Pierre Thomas and Mike Bell combining for more than 150 yards and 2 touchdowns. Even Dave Thomas (the founder of Wendys?) found a way to make big plays. I mean, when you see Mark Brunell trotting out on the field and a healthy Drew Brees on the sideline, you know you’ve just witnessed something really special.
We all needed an easy win…both the fans and the team. We all know what lurks around the bend next Monday night. We’ll need to be at 100 percent when musty, sweatshirt man and his band of goons roll into the Crescent City. In the interest of preserving my energy, I couldn’t be bothered with another exhausting Saints game that went down to the wire. Apparently, neither could the team.
So go rest up Saints fans, we’ve got a big week of media hype ahead. Lie your head upon the pillow of a perfect season. And when you’re counting sheep, the only numbers you’ll need to visualize are 10 and 0.

6 games? You included the Dolphi…………. oh wait there was a bye, nevermind.
It’s kinda like the Saints, you know. I’m getting so used to brilliant commentary from you that I almost don’t bother to comment. If it hadn’t been your mention of how much it’s appreciated, I would’ve skipped it. But, kudo’s, again. Personally, I have nofear of the Pats. 45-25 or so…But, yes, you do want a full solid week to face them, this time. In the near future, it will feel a lot more comfortable.
I love being 2-0 with you Mike! As for the Pats, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous. That musty gray sweatshirt man made a deal with the devil. Hopefully our Saintly ways can overcome pure evil!!
