The color commentator on Sirius said it best in the first half: “All the want to is on Houston’s side…all the we’re just here is on the Colts side.” I was in the car traveling home from Thanksgiving listening as Houston put up 17 unanswered points on the Colts. I thought hmmm this is interesting. The Colts went into halftime down 20-7 and all hopes of staying undefeated were slim. The defense made Houston look…GOOD. With Dwight Freeney out of the lineup it was looking as though this would be loss number one. Oh and Peyton’s two INTs didn’t help matters either. Then I remembered- THIS IS PEYTON MANNING, THIS IS REGGIE WAYNE, THIS CAN’T HAPPEN. Funny thing about football there are two halves in every game.
In the third quarter Manning found his go to guy. He hit Reggie with a four yard TD to bring the Colts to within 6. All of a sudden they’re not down by that much. The fourth quarter seemed like two completely different teams showed up to play. With less than 9 minutes remaining the unthinkable normal happened. Manning hit Dallas Clark for a TD to bring the score to 21-20 giving the Colts their first lead of the afternoon. Then in 20 seconds Matt Schaub was intercepted by Clint Session who took it all the way to the house to extend the Colts lead to 28-20. Indy never looked back as they defeated the Texans 35-27.
The Colts improved to 15-1 in their fifth straight come-from-behind win. They extended their streak to 11-0 for the season. They are also one win shy of the New England Patriots‘ NFL-record 21-game run from 2006-08. The Colts also became the first team to secure a playoff spot and gained the AFC South title Sunday evening when San Francisco beat Jacksonville 20-3.
Not to sound like a broken record but these wins aren’t pretty but they are definitely wins. This week however I am in a weird situation. It happens twice a year. I am a University of Tennessee fan so GO PEYTON. I am a Titans fan so NO PEYTON. I HATE TITANS COLTS WEEK! I’m actually hoping if any team derails the Colts undefeated season it’s Vince Young and the Titans!
