Nightmare Revisited

skins v eaglesFor two weeks in a row, my fellow Redskins fans and I have suffered the pain of defeat as never before. Two games that we should have had in the bag…lost. I was actually in Philly last weekend and felt like a spy walking around, hating myself for enjoying a cold beer in “Eagles” bars. WHY OH WHY? I’m placing blame twice. Once on our Jason Campbell, our talented, but oh so fearful QB and our defensive line, who without Haynesworth, forgot to guard his portion of the field.  Let’s face it, as great as the Eagles are (supposedly), we had this game with a tight grip.

I think there was actually a moment in which I saw the “deer in the headlights” look in Campbell’s eyes, at which point I said to myself, “Well, there goes the game.” For the most part, at least at the beginning, Campbell, and the offensive line seemed like they had their ducks in a row. They were making smart moves, good catches and really working to get the first down, and then it all fell apart. This is not something that Skins fans aren’t used to considering the last few years (maybe more like 15). But typically, somehow, when it’s been a game that really counted, at least for the hearts of the fans, the boys have pulled it off. And really…we were given opportunities that we just did not take both weeks. The only well spent opportunity we was the onside kick.

Defensive line! What in the world were you all thinking??? I understand that your big tackle, Haynesworth, was missing, but wasn’t it obvious, not only from last weeks game against the Cowboys, but from the first few plays by the Eagles, that they are counting on that missing piece as being your defensive weakness? I mean I know I have the view from TV, but really. REALLY? And I’d rather not comment on how ridiculous it is that we allowed for a 2 point conversion at such a critical point in the game.

I’m a tired chick…tired and a little jealous after watching games like Sunday nights Ravens v. Steelers, and Saints v. Patriots. Great games, risks, skills and excitement…and yet every week I come back. This is my version of a self inflicted, recurring nightmare.  The team that always chokes at the worst time.
