Bills vs Pats. Coulda won…didn’t

Well, the Bills have done it again–have legit potential to beat the Pats and throw it away with careless penalties–but this time the loss wasn’t so devastating. Yes, my new and improved attitude towards this season is actually working and sticking. What happened? Well it all began when…

-Fitzpatrick led the Bills on a 14-play, 69-yard, 9:24 drive to the 2nd yard line. Freddy J had the majority of the run game’s 48 yards and our OLs actually provided slightly less than adequate protection. But then the OLs showed, yet again, that they don’t completely grasp the concept of the game and made us settle for a FG because of a false start penalty that pushed us back to the 12-yard line.

-Poz intercepted Brady before he could complete any passes…but the Bills offense quickly gave the Pats the ball right back. Classic.

-Two pass interference penalties against Drayton Florence and Donte Whitner were killers and basically handed the Pats two of their TDs.

-Going into the second half the Bills played like they wanted it and drove down the field…but had to settle for a 56-yard FG attempt, which Lindell hooked left. I can always forgive his mistake though, because the look of sheer disappointment on his face is enough to make you tear up yourself.

-The Pats didn’t actually play all that well. Our D was able to hold Brady to his worst pass game in three years–115 yards. Maroney looked like he was barreling through our run D but he only got 81 yards and a TD.

-What killed us were 124 yards in penalties with 104 of them in the first half. With that, the Bills managed to set two records in one game. They became the only team in the league to have that many penalty yards in the first half…and with another interception they held on to the title of most interceptions in the league. Oh well, gotta take the good with the bad.

-It’s not often that the Bills attempt plays like an on-side kick…but when they do it usually works because nobody expects them to pull something like that. This time it didn’t because Maybin got called for being offsides. Our most buzzed about rookie still has a lot to learn.

-I think Incognito’s presence was positive, for the most part, and probably a bit to thank for the better-than-average protection Fitzpatrick received. But he also collected a couple penalties that negated what would have been extremely positive plays. All things considered though, he did just start practicing with the team on Wednesday and is already a starter…so that in itself is an accomplishment worth mentioning.

-Last, but not least, 6 sacks on Fitzpatrick is unacceptable. We need an O-line and we need it fast.

GO BILLS!!!

Believe me, it got painful to watch… at times. Brady’s INT and our D’s huge holes (that first Bills drive was excruciating). But Randy Moss stepped up, and Wes Welker had another good game. All around, it’s a W and I’m happy with that. But we sure do need some help on D…

I hate hearing “they beat themselves” but they beat themselves….sucks…
I wonder who T.O.’s blaming and if he’ll be back again next year.
