Imagine what this season has in store for us: another run at our favorite holiday, Lombardi Gras, and a new boutique to help fit the part of the sassy NFL fan. On Saturday, the NFL opened up its pop-up shop, the first of its kind, on Magazine Street in Uptown New Orleans.
Running fashionably late as always, I showed up at the store around 2 and gained access at 3. The line was 50-deep at all times, surpassing the expectations of NFL representatives. “We knew this would be a success,” said Natara Holloway, Director of Corporate Development for the NFL, “Yet, this exceeded anything we were expecting. People warned us that the ladies in New Orleans were avid fans and they exceeded all our expectations.” They saw people lined up at 8:30 in the morning and the store didn’t open until 11am.
The pop-up shop features clothing from designers such as one-of-a-kind leather jackets by Cole Haan, Alyssa Milano’s line Touch, and Victoria’s Secret new Pink line along with new items being added daily. They also offer jewelry and bath salts as well as items for the home such as the intriguing reed diffuser. When I first laid my eyes on that little glass jar with its tiny flags flapping off the bamboo reeds, I couldn’t stop thinking of what the NFL could have named it. I don’t necessarily think of a scintillating scent when I think of the NFL. It was almost too much to comprehend… would it be Cool Summer Brees, Freshly Mowed Farve, Turf Toe, or the ever-so-enchanting Smell Greatness?
I couldn’t resist and had to make that impulse purchase of the “Unstoppable” reed diffuser. And thankfully, my house doesn’t smell Jeremy Shockey after a game, or maybe that wouldn’t be such a bad thing…
