Is it wrong that one of the things I’m most looking forward to about the Saints’ match-up against the Houston Texans is what my boys will look like in their throwback jerseys? In case you haven’t heard, the Who Dat nation is going retro this Sunday...like Archie Manning retro. Take a look at the cute little number Drew and Co. will be wearing when they storm the field.
As for the actual game, I guess it will be a good one. You never really know what to expect from the Houston Texans. Honestly, I can’t even say I know much about them They’re not the Cowboys and therefore not the devil. They’ve got a solid offense and defense…most of the time. Sometimes they look great and sometimes they’re pretty “meh.” Who the hell knows which Texans team will show up tomorrow?
If it’s the “awesome” ones, the Saints could have some trouble slowing down Matt Schaub and one of the most dangerous wide receivers in the game, aka Andre Johnson. Our defense had their hands full in the preseason with running back Ben Tate, who will likely get the bulk of the carries over Arian Foster. Tate looked solid in his first two starts against pretty crappy teams. Still, the Saints have had issues stopping the run so they could be in for a major test when it comes to slowing down the Texans’ offense.
Or not. The only thing consistent about the Texans is their inconsistency. There’s a reason why they haven’t been to the playoffs in…well, ever. They’ve got weapons but they often struggle with knowing how to use them.
That is not something you’ll ever hear about Coach Sean Payton and the Saints. You can expect the coach to pull all sorts of funny business out of his bag of tricks to win this game. Since this is a team we don’t play a lot, this is a perfect opportunity for Payton to exploit the Texans’ lack of familiarity with how the Saints’ offense operates. Payton knows the potential for this game to be a shootout and you’d better believe he’s locked and loaded.
