The Bucs Are Done With Europe…

No more streakers for Bucs fans.

Now that the season is over, I can share a little secret with all you football chicks.

As you may remember, I attended the Bucs vs. Bears game at Wembley Stadium this fall. I posted pictures of some crazy fans, and I talked about the British NFL experience, but I never mentioned the migraine.

That’s right, around the second quarter of the game, I started feeling the beginnings of a headache. Those of you who get migraines know what I’m talking about. It starts with just a little teeny pain in your temple, but you know a bigger, badder pain is coming. And of course on this particular trip, I’d not brought my migraine medicine. Nor had I any Advil or Tylenol. So I was left to sit and pray that the headache didn’t get worse until after the game. That maybe the Bucs would play so well that I would will myself to health.

Unfortunately, the game was miserable. The Bucs looked like they were sleepwalking through the downs. And my headache got worse.

By the time the Bucs came to life a bit at the end of the game, I had a full blown migraine. I feebly waved my skull-and-crossbones flag with each first down the Bucs made. But I was exhausted, and nauseated, and my head hurt. So when the Bucs eventually lost the game, I couldn’t muster too much sadness. With the lackluster performance I’d just seen, I felt like I’d worked harder getting through the game than some of the players had.

Luckily, the lovely people of the Wembley Stadium first-aid station graciously sent me on my way to the train with strong doses acetaminophen and ibuprofen. And things started looking up for me, personally, an hour or so after that.

But things for the Bucs… Not so much. The team looked like that same lethargic, disinterested, just-off-an-overseas flight ragtag bunch for most of the remainder of the season. Sure, there were a couple of bright spots–like, erm, well, I guess the something-less-than-humiliating losses to New Orleans and Green Bay were about the only highlights. (That’s right, the losses were highlights.) See, the Bucs didn’t win another game this season.

The London game was the first of a 10-game losing streak.

A 10-game losing streak in which the Bucs had a ridiculous 349 points scored on them.

The Glazers  must have put at least a little of the blame for the slide on the trip overseas, because besides cutting ties with Coach Raheem and his staff, they have officially decided to stop playing games in London for the foreseeable future.

Not a bad idea, for a game that was little more than a headache.
