Grab a bottle of wine Colts fans, put on some Adele and allow yourself to feel the pain. You’re losing a man who has been the love of your lives for the past 14 years. It’s okay to hurt, even if you saw the hurt coming.
After months of speculation and media babble about the fate of Peyton Manning and his future with the Colts, the star player and the team have made it official. It’s over. The Colts have decided that the age old adage “it’s cheaper to keep her” doesn’t really apply as it relates to their star QB. So they’re putting their chips on Stanford standout Andrew Luck to be the quarterback of the future.
Manning, who didn’t play last season because of a neck injury, insists he’s still got it. And you’d better believe he’s got plenty of suitors who will be lining up to snatch him. After all, he may be their best bet at “putting a ring on it” in the near future. But you could tell, as he and Colts owner Jim Irsay delivered the news, that parting has been such sweet sorrow. They both choked up as the reality of their new lives apart finally started to set in.
As someone who has been through a few bad breakups of her own, I can assure you Colts fans, the pain will go away. I know it’s too raw now for you to believe me, but trust me, the pain goes away. Don’t harbor any bitterness over what’s happened. Wish Manning the best and do your best to move on. And remember the good times. You sure had a lot of ‘em!
Most importantly, don’t hold the hurt of this breakup over your new guy’s head. It’s not Andrew Luck’s fault that he’s being forced to fill one of the biggest pairs of QB shoes in the modern NFL era. Sure, you’ll be tempted to make comparisons. Will he make you laugh like Peyton? Will he give you goose bumps like Peyton? BUT DON’T DO IT!! Let your new life with Luck start fresh. Let him carve his own path into your hearts. And who knows…he just might surprise you!
In the meantime, if you’re tempted to stay in bed, surrounded by tear-stained tissues for the next couple of days, who could judge you?
