Packers vs. 49ers: Battle of The Quarterbacks

Going into the game, all odds were against my beloved Packers. Last year’s divisional playoffs loss was a crushing blow to the team. However, a considerable amount of time during the offseason was devoted to analyzing this loss…and it showed.

While the Packers did lose 28-34 in the end, it was nowhere near the blowout that everyone had anticipated. It was necessary that our defense step up and keep Colin Kaepernick contained, and I believe they did just that. Clay Matthews led that effort with 7 tackles and 1 sack. I also wanted the Packers to establish a running game that the opposing defense would respect. With Running backs Eddie Lacy and James Starks, I don’t feel that we made that statement just yet. In his first NFL start, Lacy had 14 carries for 41 yards and 1 touchdown. I think Lacy will be much more effective against other teams with weaker defensive lines.

Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb stepped up as the leading receivers for Green Bay.  For Nelson to be out the entire preseason, he doesn’t look like he has missed a beat. However, their combined yardage barely surpassed the beast that is the 49ers Anquan Boldin. I know the Ravens are somewhere in tears for giving that man up for a sixth, yes sixth round draft pick. Boldin had 13 receptions during the game for 208 yards. Our defense made Kaepernick throw and that is exactly what he did.  He threw…and threw…and threw some more. Colin Kaepernick ended up throwing for 412 yards and 3 Touchdowns. He’s an elite Quarterback…he can throw…he can run…He’s definitely a threat and no one can deny that.

Aaron Rodgers showed up last night throwing for 333 yards and 3 Touchdowns.Everyone knows what he can do. Rodgers was the main reason that the Packers were allowed to stay in the game and remain tied up until the 4th quarter.

All in all, it was a great game to watch. Although we didn’t get the W, I’m proud of my team. Moving forward, I want to see more 3rd down conversions. I want to see an improved running game. I want a WIN!

Hey Lambeau Chick – Wonderful assessment once again…Auntie Dena says, ‘Hi Ness!’ The final eight minutes of this game were hard to watch! The team beat themselves in all aspects of the game. Also…I’m hoping the Pack replaces Ross on kick-offs. He put us in the hole a couple of times that kept giving the 49ers great field position. This game don’t matter as much as the one I’m anticipating they’ll play when the weather turns cold and the stakes are high. Keep up the fantastic work kiddo!!!
