Bucs vs. Seahawks: Recap in 40 Words or Less

A recap of the Bucs/Seahawks game--and the 0-8 season in a nutshell--in the form of annotated game-time texts between my dad and me: Bucs lose in overtime. Final score, 24-27. … [Read more...]

Bucs vs. Bucs: Must-Win at Pats

The Buccaneers head to New England to face off against the Patriots today. Though most years this would be a battle easily won by Tom Brady and his team, the Patriots are a weakened bunch, as Brady has lost his top targets. Wide receiver Wes Welker is gone, as is a certain tight end with off-the-field issues who shall remain nameless. Current Pats wide receiver Danny Amendola and tight end Rob Gronkowski will likely still be benched with injuries this week (Amendola is listed as doubtful, Gronkowski as questionable). On the other side of the ball, the Bucs' defense has been playing well, with an improved pass rush (they racked up 4 sacks on Drew Brees last week) and a hard-hitting … [Read more...]

Bucs vs. Bucs: Everyone Loses

The Bucs' first series of last week's loss against the Jets was an unmitigated disaster. When QB Josh Freeman's headset stopped working, he was forced to take a time out. Back on the field, the headset continued to malfunction amidst the crowd noise, and the Bucs were slapped with two delay of game penalties in a row. After a sack and a false start penalty, this series mercifully ended in a punt. It seemed clear from the sloppy mess on the field that this would be a long season for Buc fans. Another long season. But that was just the tip of the proverbial iceberg. On the field, the Bucs ended up losing the game when one of the most promising young players, second year linebacker … [Read more...]

Bucs vs. Jets: It Could Be Worse

Chicks, this has been a particularly long offseason for the Buccaneers. This time last year, Bucs fans were prepping for a new start.  Greg Schiano was set to begin his first year as an NFL head coach, taking over a team that had mutinied against "players' coach" Raheem Morris the previous year. Offseason news centered around the new stringent discipline in place and the promise of what a new coach might mean to the young team. This offseason, there have been fewer story lines, and less hopeful ones at that. Luckily, though, the Bucs will face the Jets this Sunday, who prove that no matter what the Bucs have been through, it could have been worse. Darrelle Revis May Still … [Read more...]

Reasons to Be Thankful After a Buc Loss

This past Sunday, the 6-4 Buccaneers faced the 9-1 Falcons. For the Bucs, it was the opportunity to prove themselves as legitimate playoff contenders after a string of wins against less impressive foes. However, and no need for a spoiler alert here, the Bucs lost 24-23. Going in, I'd figured that a close game would be something of a moral victory. That the progress made to nearly defeat the best in league just a year removed from a 4-12 season would be enough. Turns out, it's not true. The Bucs played like a team that was equal to the Falcons.  And though they competed until the very last second against a top-tier team, and though last year's Bucs would never have been in this position, … [Read more...]
