Week 10, Miami vs. Tampa Bay Verdict: Dolphins – Signs of Sickness

All year I’ve told myself that Miami is a better team than their record shows. Now I’m not so sure. I think the Dolphins may be exactly what their record shows–a team on the brink. On the edge of being good, but just a slip away from tumbling into free fall. Sure, they’ve lost some nail biters, but many of Miami’s wins were ugly. And this was an ugly win that nearly got away. So, is this squad sea-worthy or sea sick? My friends, the Dolphins show many signs of sickness. I know this from the nausea, headache, and confusion I experienced while watching the game!

The REAL Weapons of Mass Destruction (photo from AtlantaFalcons.com)
So…Falcons Fans were excited because our Defense looked amazing last week, its a new season we’re amped to see what it’ll bring and how everything develops, PLUS two home games in a row. Despite the fact that downtown Atlanta is under water (not literally, but 3 inches of rain!) Falcons Fans still showed up to support the dirty birds!!! Now… my top 4 moments:
- TD pass to Tony Gonzalez
- TD pass to Jason Snelling
- TD pass to Michael Turner
- TD rush by Roddy White
Team Raheem
I feel like I need to say, before the season officially starts, that I love Raheem Morris.
The new Bucs coach seriously radiates joy and energy. He’s like that kid in 4th grade who’s obsessed with dinosaurs and every time you even mention the word triceratops –which, obviously, is not often– he starts jumping up and down and saying, “Did you know the triceratops had three horns?! Did you know the triceratops had scales?!” (For the record, the kid would know way more than that, but my dino-knowledge ends there.)
Rise and Grind
So yeah, it’s a match-up between the Birdies and the Kitties…a match-up the Birdies won two of the last three times they met. But we all know the preseason is more about self-evaluation anyway.
The biggest questions are on the line. Literally. Neither the offensive or defensive lines are set in stone, (and they are areas that need immense improvement) so expect lots of lineup changes there. I do know it’ll be nice to see Larry Foote in a Lions uniform.
Also, not sure if the vets will play much, but actually…some of the rookies won’t be playing either. It’s a precaution, but one that should let you know these players are pretty highly rated by the staff. First-round pick TE Brandon Pettigrew might likely be out because of a thigh injury, and S Louis Delmas hasn’t been in many drills in over a week because of his knee.
The receivers race will be down to Eric Fowler, who’s trying to escape a third year on the practice squad, and Demir Boldin, younger brother of Anquan. Calvin Johnson has a thumb injury, second-string John Standeford has a hamstring issue, and Bryant Johnson missed the first 12 days of camp with a “non-football injury”…that he sustained on a golf cart… *side eye*
One vet who might not get to rest is Daunte Culpepper. Maybe Dan Stanton will get to play for a minute, but on the one hand the team is in looove w/ Matt Stafford…then they say Culpepper is playing “like a kid again.” Will grandpa return to glory or will the kid knock him on his back?
Oh – in the meantime we might also pull out a W against the Falcons. Let’s not forget, however, that the Lions were the only team to have a perfect preseason last year….so win, lose, or draw, this game matters about as much as Paula Abdul leaving American Idol.
At the very least, it’s a chance for the Lions to debut their new unis.
Saints Chick Chow: Cincinnati Chili and Ocho-no-no Dogs
Well, it’s that time of year again when I brush off my cookbooks and delight you readers with game day recipes. Our first preseason game will be against the Cincinnati Bengals Friday night who will have in tow their tweeting star Chad Ochocinco, the Poet Laureate of the NFL (well, at least in a 140 words or less.) What better way to kick of the season than with chili and hot dogs? With Greek and eastern cultures heavily influencing urban Ohio cuisine, you will see that it even spills over to quintessential American cuisine.
So, loosen your belt and get ready to dig in….
