Shockley-Free 53!

I warned you guys…way back when we drafted John Parker in April I told you what a dynamic QB he was and told you that he was definitely going to make an impact. *BLAM* Its official-JPW is a Falcon!!!  The Falcons released DJ Shockley leaving the QB position looking like –> Matt Ryan–>Chris Redman–>John Parker Wilson…I give it a year before JP is our backup QB. It’s only preseason right? Right?

So there’s no need for me to be nearly excited as I was about the Jets beating the Giants 27-25 last night.

Except I am. This young Mark Sanchez is showing flashes, and even his flashes are more impressive than Chad Pennington was in his rookie season (last season does not exist in my world.)

The defense played well, and in spite of accumulating 3,276,821 (okay 12) penalties, the team did what it had to do to win. It would have been great to start this recap with some anti-Giants rhetoric (I hate them, don’t ask, that’s a whole other post) but there is no need. They lost. That’s always more than enough.

SHOCKED? NO! wish I was…

s507575565_3700I’ve always thought that UGA fans were grossly delusional, and borderline skitzo. Their perception of their program (and players) is generally a hyperbole (read: a grand exaggeration) far extending the parameters of their actual talent. Now…finally, years later its been proven. I just hate that it has to be at the cost of the Falcons.

DJ Shockley has been on my sugar.honey.iced.tea list for quite some time for being just a smidgen above average-that doesn’t cut it in Super Bowl bound programs!!!  Yet people in Atlanta were sooo happy we got to keep “one of our own” bump that, the guy sucks. How many games will we give him to prove it?

Team Raheem

I feel like I need to say, before the season officially starts, that I love Raheem Morris.

The new Bucs coach seriously radiates joy and energy. He’s like that kid in 4th grade who’s obsessed with dinosaurs and every time you even mention the word triceratops –which, obviously, is not often– he starts jumping up and down and saying, “Did you know the triceratops had three horns?! Did you know the triceratops had scales?!” (For the record, the kid would know way more than that, but my dino-knowledge ends there.)

Of all the 2008 rookies, this is the guy you heard the most. I don’t know if it’s the Miami-swag in him or what, but RB Kevin Smith was definitely a talker. (We needed at least one player on this team who was as media friendly as our dear friend Roy Williams). And while confidence is important…little Kevin took a runnning leap off a cliff with this one.

On his blog, Smith34.com, Smith predicted the Lions will make it to the playoffs this year. He said the Lions really weren’t that far from winning most of their games last year, and he believes there are new elements in place that will lead to some uber-positive results.
