All I Want For Christmas is a Titans Win!
I’ve always been jealous of my Cowboys-fan cousin. Every year, he gets to celebrate a great holiday and watch his favorite team all in the same day. Delicious food and a Dallas win? Must be sweet.
But while I do like Thanksgiving, nothing beats Christmas. And now I get to watch my Tennessee Titans take on arguably the hottest team in the league on Christmas night? Thanks Santa! AND I’m going to be home, where we are one of the like 17 households in the country with NFL Network?? Thanks again, Santa! I must have been a good girl this year.
Hit it and Quit it Titans Tuesday!
I have to admit that I’ve been having a little trouble getting into the Christmas spirit this year. I blame it on having a real-person job. For the past four years, come December I was finishing up exams and making plans for my month of holiday freedom. I had time to bake cookies, wrap presents and actually enjoy the snow without having to shovel out my car. Now? I have to squeeze in Christmas shopping a couple days before the big day. It’s become a stressful nightmare. But if there is one thing that can get me in the mood for all things holiday, it’s an early gift. So thank you very much, Miami (picture the little Dolphin logo wearing a Santa hat instead of a helmet). Thanks for playing a great game against my Titans. Thanks for clawing back in the second half and making the game exciting. Thanks Chad Henne for that gift-wrapped interception in overtime. Thanks Greg Camarillo for your unnecessary roughness stocking stuffer. And THANK YOU FOOTBALL SANTA FOR GETTING THE TITANS BACK TO .500!!
Three Games Left – and We’re Not (Officially) Eliminated!
Well here we are. Week 15. After an 0-6 start, I figured that this time of the season I’d be drowning my playoff-less sorrows in holiday-themed cocktails and hoping the Titans could spoil other teams’ chances of making it to the big dance. Never, NEVER did I imagine that Vince Young and company would still be mathematically eligible for a shot at a wild card spot. Now, I’m not delusional. I understand the chances of Tennessee winning out and all the other AFC teams in the hunt crashing and burning are slim to none. But my team won six out of the last seven games! A girl can dream, can’t she?
The Return of the Quit It…
Sadly, I have been shunned to the loser’s corner once again. Tennessee played a sloppy game – they were flagged for unnecessary penalties, dropped BEAUTIFUL passes, and squandered not one, but TWO fourth and goal opportunities. They had a shot to not only pull off an amazing win, but prove that they were a legitimately respectable football team. Not to mention that a six-game win streak would have felt glorious… But no. I had to endure a game filled with mistakes, embarrassment and heckling from the high-and-mighty Packers fans with whom I was watching the game. Some players attempted to play up to the level of the Colts, but others reverted back to the team that went 0-6.
Improbable? Yep. Impossible? Don’t Count On It.
Every Sunday has been tough for me this season. Either I’m praying to the football gods to break a painful losing streak or keep an awesome win streak intact. Stressful, sometimes disappointing and other times unexpectedly fantastic, the Tennessee Titans have at the very least been memorable thus far. While I may think this every week, this Sunday is really their biggest test. When they first faced the Indianapolis Colts, they had a flailing quarterback, a losing attitude and the very opposite of momentum on their side. I cannot imagine a bigger turnaround for their second meeting. Vince Young is tearing it up, the team is riding the 5-win high and after that beautiful 99-yard game-winning drive, momentum is at an all-time high. If the Colts think they’re getting another easy win, they’re going to be mighty disappointed come Sunday afternoon.
