Since I’m among friends, I’ll be honest. Last night’s draft was about as exciting as watching my dog sniff for the perfect patch of grass on which to poop. But congratulations, NFL! I watched anyway. The WHOLE damn thing.

There was none of the “Houston disses Reggie Bush for Mario Williams” excitement of years past. Sure there was the dejection of Geno Smith, but I’m not such a twisted bitch that I’d take joy in his obvious heartache. (Unless of course he was a Falcons player.)

I guess it’s something that the number one draft pick is from a no-name school like Central Michigan. I guess.. But is was widely known that the Chiefs had their eye on offensive tackle Eric Fisher. A certain FSU alum, aka Mr. Nola Chick, seemed particularly appalled that QB EJ Manuel went so high up. Manuel, who went to the Bills, was the only quarterback taken in the first round.

Maybe I’m shocked that the Saints, with their piss-poor defense, passed on linebacker (aka Beast) Jarvis Jones of Georgia. Instead, they went with the man I’ve decided to dub “Faux Creole”, Texas safety Kenny Vaccaro. Vaccaro is much like Liam Neeson’s character from the taken movies. “He has a particular set of skills.” He’s considered a hybrid player who can thrive as both a free or strong safety. He’s fast and athletic but prone to habits of sucky Saints safeties past, like “bumping” instead of tackling.

I know what some of you are thinking. “Blah, blah blah who cares? Look how adorable he is in these sunglasses!”

Fine, you win.

Here’s hoping he and the remaining rounds of the draft, exceed expectations.

Former Patriots linebacker Tedy Bruschi wasn’t just at the Boston Marathon when a pair of bombs went off near the finish line. He saw the bombs and felt them.

Bruschi was there with members of his family cheering on a team of runners he had organized. Here’s how he described what happened.

Every time Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola drops a pass this year, I’ll be cheering. Not because I’m a hater but because Amendola has pledged to donate $200 for every dropped pass to a Boston Marathon Relief Fund. But you don’t just have to root against Amendola. For every pass he catches, he’ll donate $100 to the fund. It’s enough to make even a Jets fan cheer on a Patriots player catching the rock from Tom Brady.

Amendola’s heartfelt gesture is one of the many ways the sports world is reaching out to those affected by the senseless tragedy in Boston. Philadelphia Phillies Outfielder Ben Revere had the message “Pray for Boston” on his glove at last night’s game. And check out this full page ad in the sports section of the Chicago Tribune.

The terror attacks on the Boston Marathon killed three people, including an 8 year old boy, and injured more than 140 others. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims.

Just when we’d all gotten a little addicted to that Faith Hill song that sets the mood for Sunday Night Football, Faith is kicking us to the curb. The country star tweeted that she and NBC are partying ways and she will no longer sing the pregame hype music “Waiting All Day.” The song used to annoy me a little but know I must admit, I’m gonna miss her.

The question is, who will fill Hill’s fabulous high-heeled shoes? Here are a few of our best guesses.

She’s an All-American girl with a powerful set of pipes and tons of ‘tude. She’s also a big football fan. The Texas native has never been shy about her love for the Cowboys.

It’s hard to fill the shoes of a kicker that’s been around for more than 20 years. Well, it’s usually hard. But the Detroit Lions may have found the perfect answer to replace Jason Hanson, who retired last season. Check out 28-year-old Havard Rugland, a.k.a. “Kickalicious.” He’s a YouTube sensation and when you check out these moves, you’ll see why.

Rugland is a former soccer player from Norway but his new home is with the Lions. He just signed a deal with the team to compete with David Akers for the starting job.

In a year where we’ll see the first NFL player to admit he dates nonexistent women, the revelation of the first openly gay player had to be right around the corner. According to CBSSports.com’s Mike Freeman, a current player is getting ready to come out of the closet. We’re not sure if he’s a high profile player, but he certainly will be once the announcement is made.

What’s most extraordinary is that it has actually taken this long for an NFL player to feel comfortable enough to embrace his homosexuality. Most players have waited until after their careers were over to go public. But perhaps in this new era, where players have become outspoken advocates for gay rights issues, some players feel the risks no longer outweigh the rewards.

This trailblazer, who ever he is, can no doubt expect to be the target of internet trolls and the subject of cruel, juvenile taunts from certain douchebag fans. But he can also expect to go down in history as a hero. He’s bringing in the NFL into the 21st century.

We’re now about 24 hours away from the start of NFL Free Agency’s open market, which means we can finally start freaking out about who may be going where (unlike NFL Network and ESPN, who have been freaking out for weeks.) Who could blame us for waiting until the last minute? It’s not exactly like last off-season, when we had the “Peyton Manning Sweepstakes” to entertain us. This time around, it’s second tier stars like Ahmad Bradshaw and Greg Jennings. They’re not exactly Prom Kings but you’d still be excited if they asked you to the big dance.

Here’s our breakdown of some of the biggest Free Agency story lines so far.

Tony Gonzales, Falcons TE: Expected to stay with the team for more money, so long as he can skip training camp. (As a Saints fan, I’m imploring Tony to retire already!)

Greg Jennings (Packers WR) vs Mike Wallace (Steelers WR): For teams looking to upgrade their wide receiving corps, you can’t do much better than these dudes. They’ve both got speed, veteran talent, and can rack up major yards after the catch. Still, with Wallace’s youth, no one would deny he gets the edge. It will be interesting to see which of these guys lands the better deal. Jennings has made it clear he’s not going to a team with a sucky quarterback. (We’re looking at you, Browns, Cardinals, Raiders and Titans!) But it’s safe to say that given Jennings’ contract demands, we won’t be seeing him in a Packers uniform next season.

Least Likely to Go Anywhere-Jermon Bushrod, LT Saints: Sit down, Jermon. You ain’t going nowhere. Sure you made it to the Pro Bowl, but that doesn’t mean you can expect a ton of lucrative offers from competitive teams. You’re already on a competitive team and there are waaaay too many other offensive lineman up for grabs this free agency for you to get much more than what you’re already getting.

Oh…and the same goes for you, Wes Welker. You’re not going anywhere. Thanks for playing.

Reggie Bush to the Lions?
The Dolphins don’t want him and rumor has it that the Lions are very interested. No one really cares about this. It’s a cheap excuse to show this picture.

Giants Shakeup: Both Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora and former running back Ahmad Bradshaw are free agents this year. Umenyiora has already proclaimed he’ll be “defensive player of the league this year”. That’s a cute, highly unlikely proclamation. Still, even if Osi’s a little overconfident, we think he’ll still be regarded as a hot commodity in the open market.

As for Bradshaw, it’s never great to be a free agent coming off an injury. He’s already been cut by the Giants and coupled with the concerns over his surgically repaired foot, he’d be a fool to expect a big money offer. Still, Bradshaw will no doubt have his fair share of teams to choose from as he’s considered the top available running back.

You’re a season ticket holder, you’ve got enough paraphernalia for your team to open up an Amazon store and if your best friend got married on the same day as a Super Bowl, you would more than likely miss your best friend’s wedding. And even with all that, some crazy dude in Pittsburgh has found a way to “out-fan” you by getting a tattoo of a terrible towel on his chest.

Yep, that’s a real picture. Some guy tweeted it to Steelers linebacker LaMarr Woodley. As you might imagine, Woodley didn’t hesitate to share it with the rest of us loser, underachieving fans. Kinda makes you wish the Steelers get moved to L.A. one day, doesn’t it?

He’s a toddler, he’s a Saints fan, he hates the “Cowgirls” and the “Vi-queens” and he pronounces it “Jag-Waggers”. Seriously, what’s not to love about this video?

When Terrell Owens decided to play for an Indoor Football League, we knew he must be in pretty bad financial shape. But apparently, it’s even worse than imagined. The man who was once an All-Pro receiver and earned more than $60 million during his NFL career, now owes the IRS more than $400,000 in back taxes.
