Fire the Cannons!

Draft Suh and we'll call it even.
It’s comforting to know that after a 3-13 season, the Bucs are willing to make changes. Big changes.
Let’s run through some of them:
1. Hiring Eric Yarber as the new wide receiver’s coach. So let’s recap: Last year, just before the season started, the Bucs fired new offensive coordinator Jeff Jagodzinski, and replaced him with in-over-his-head QB coach Greg Olson.
Then, in the middle of the season, the Bucs fired Defensive Coordinator Jim Bates and Coach Raheem took over. Rah did a significantly better job with the players he had than Bates did, but, you know, he has a few things to focus on as head coach, too.
Bad Omen for the Saints… Or is it?
Not to rain on the parade of Saints fans (like it’s supposed to rain on the Gasparilla parade today), but I read an interesting Bucs-related Super Bowl fact: No team that has lost to the Bucs during the regular season has ever won the Super Bowl.
Now, I have good news and bad news for Saints fans.
Let’s just rip off the band-aid, shall we? Bad news first. The Bucs beat the Saints on December 27. (Ok, so that was actually good news for me, but this isn’t about me. Lord knows that good pieces of Buc news have been few and far between this year.)
Gaines Adams, 1983-2010
News broke this morning that Chicago Bears defensive end Gaines Adams has passed away.
Adams was the Buccaneers’ first-round pick in the 2007 draft and the number 4 draft pick overall. He was traded to the Bears during the 2009-10 season. Though Adams did not have as great success as was hoped on the field in his years with the Bucs, he was always considered to be a hard working player who was very motivated to improve.
Adams is reported to have suffered cardiac arrest due to an enlarged heart while visiting his family in South Carolina.
Hey, How About Some More Bad News?
In one more piece of horrible Bucs news (because there can never be enough!), safety/linebacker/safety Jermaine Phillips was arrested yesterday on domestic battery charges. Domestic battery by strangulation, to be more specific. (See the full story on tbo.com.)
Phillips only played two games this season before being placed on IR. Considering how well the team performed in Phillips’ absence, I fear that the team might keep him. They certainly have been known to keep shady characters on the roster in the past. (Exhibit A: Tight End Jerramy Stevens, whose alleged history with women will seriously make you vomit. Read The Seattle Times report here.)
