When Pigskin Met Poker

They take part in one of the most profitable ventures in the world and they rake in millions every year. So how is it that so many NFL players end up broke? Maybe because so many of them gamble it all away in bad investments and baby mamas. (T.O. *Cough* T.O.) But it turns out some of them may be finding smarter ways to take a chance with their cash. They're taking part in one of America’s other extremely popular pastimes: Poker. Of course, the league has strict rules about players and gambling. But some players have either found a way around the rules via charity tournaments or they wait until after they’ve hung up their cleats for good to go “all in.” Below, we take a look … [Read more...]

The Super Bowl Is More Important Than…

wedding15_t653

...apparently a whole mess of stuff, according to the average American. And I thought it was just me and my fellow chicks who suffered from an odd, unhealthy obsession with the game. But nope, it turns out the rest of you are a bunch of weirdos, too! Hooray!! According to a survey run by CouponCabin.com (I know, I know...but just hear me out), 20% of people said they would miss a loved one's funeral if their favorite team was in the game. (Say what?!!!) 21% would miss an important work responsibility and 20 percent would miss the wedding of a close friend. (If someone cares so little about the Super Bowl that they would plan their wedding on game day, are they really worth being friends … [Read more...]

All I Want For Christmas…is Drew!

Hopefully Vikings defensive end Jared Allen heeded my warnings about what the Saints would do to his team. Of course, it wasn't a long shot to predict that New Orleans would put a hurting on those purple punks, even before Allen put his big ole crusty foot in his mouth by trash talking the city of New Orleans. But a game that started with the Saints giving me mild heartburn, ended predictably, with Drew Brees closing in on yet another record and the Vikings retreating to their locker rooms to curl into the fetal position. The first half started out with shades of our game against St. Louis. The Saints were sloppy, sluggish and definitely on my nerves. Another similarity between the Vikings … [Read more...]

Week 15: Saints vs. Jared Allen

jared allen

When the Saints take on the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, I want them to send a message. I want their win to be decisive and convincing so that teams like the Falcons, 49ers and even the almighty Packers sit up and take notice. But I also want them to send a more personal, pointed message to one Vikings player in particular: Defensive end Jared Allen. In case you missed, it, Allen is quoted as saying: "New Orleans looks like I'm driving through a third-world country. Every time I get off the plane, I'm like, 'Oh, flak jacket.' I'm trying to get down. I'm like, 'Ah, crap, I can't carry my gun here. This sucks." Obviously we New Orleans folks don't take kindly to a guy trash talking our … [Read more...]

Drew Brees: One of NFL’s Most Liked Players

drew baylen brittany brees

He's got a winning smile, boyish charm and an enduring birth mark. What's not to like about Drew Brees? Apparently not much, according to Forbes Magazine. Brees was voted one of the NFL's most liked players. No surprises there. After all, who could resist this photo of Brees and his son Baylen after the Saints' Super Bowl win? Brees was the only player on the list I cared about, but there were other notable mentions, like Packers QB Aaron Rodgers, the Steelers Troy Polamalu, Lions Defensive Lineman Ndamukong Suh, Vikings Running Back Adrian Peterson and Colts QB Peyton Manning. Here's a list of the others, if you're into that sort of thing... … [Read more...]
