Hit It and Qui…Nah, Just Hit It Bucs-Style: Week 9
I overheard a conversation between two Bucs fans when walking back to the car on Sunday.
One guy: “Yeah! The Bucs are 1-7!”
The other: “1-7! Woo! It’s awesome!”
There was no irony in this conversation. They weren’t being sarcastic. This was two true-blue Bucs fans who were so thrilled to be off the snide, so happy to put the 0-16 fears behind them, and so relieved to have a small glimmer of hope for the rest of the season that they were thrilled–thrilled–to be 1-7.
Joy to the World

Fans were really into this game.
Yesterday was throwback day at Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium. The Bucs (and fans) wore their creamsicles, lone Buc Hall-of-Famer Lee Roy Selmon–who became the first inductee in the team’s Ring of Honor–was there with other players from the 1979 playoff team, and the stadium piped in only ’70s music.
The only thing that wasn’t retro?
The Bucs won!
So, with some assist from the songs of our first win (with links if you want to hear them), here’s a brief overview of the day the Bucs fans brought Joy to the World (Three Dog Night).
So You Think You Can Practice Tough
So we’re almost a week into training camp, and here’s one thing we know for sure: Raheem Morris wants the Bucs to play physical football.
1. That means no cool-down tents in the Florida heat. (tbo.com)
2. That means studying tape of last year’s Carolina Panthers. (pewter report)
3. That means full-contact practices. (tbo.com)
It’s a big change. Gruden was careful with his players during training camp, because his teams were a patchwork quilt of old. Past Bucs weren’t lacking in experience, but they were decidedly lacking in the ability to stay healthy and play effectively for 16 straight games. Which became pretty obvious last year when the team lost its final four games and fell out of the playoff race. (Turns out it’s really hard to stop the run when you have to use a walker.)
