Saints Chick Chow: Virtual Brownies for Our Virtually Unstoppable Punter

Enjoy those brownies, Thomas!

Enjoy those brownies, Thomas!

If you happened to read my interview with Thomas Morstead from earlier this week, you know that a member of his family brings him brownies to eat before every game and during halftime. It started off with his grandmother dropping him off the goodies prior to a game when he was a student at SMU and it became a family tradition.

Spreading that Saintly Cheer

With the holidays approaching, the Saints are not only busy preparing for the post-season, but they also continue spreading the love to New Orleans-area philanthropies and kids.

Big Night Out

Big Night Out

First off, The Zach Strief Dream Big Foundation will hold its Big Night Out Thursday, 10 December at Generations Hall in New Orleans. This event benefits Cafe Reconcile, a non-profit committed to addressing the system of generational poverty, violence, and neglect in the New Orleans area. Cafe Reconcile provides life skills and job training to at-risk young people through their Central City nonprofit restaurant. The event will feature food from the cafe, a silent auction, and appearances from Saints players. For more information, contact Dream Big Nola. Stay tuned for more coverage from this event.

Chick Chattin with Zach Strief: An Afternoon of Recipes, Chat, and Football

Mother Hen dazzles Zach with her "talking" hands

Zach Strief didn’t know what he was entering when he arrived in New Orleans in the spring of 2006 to join the Saints as a rookie from Northwestern University. While driving into town, he ended up on the wrong exit and found himself in New Orleans East, an area still uninhabited at that point. He had an 1/8 of gas in the tank and there were no open exits. He didn’t know what he was going to do. He even called his father wondering what he was doing here. Now three years later, he looks back at that time and he’s proud to be a part of the rebirth of this region. He also realizes that Louisiana will always be his home, especially since he is now married to a local woman, Mandy Schexnaydre Strief who is a Loyola Universtiy graduate and former Saintsation.

Chick Chow: Cookin’ Some Swimps and Andouille with Zach Strief

Look, like every good New Orleanian, I love Eli Manning; I believe loving all the Mannings is a requirement to live in the glorious 701-zip code. Yet, I know that we will win by a landslide this week, so I don’t even want to give Eli any energy with my prose at this point. Rather, I turn my focus in this week’s Chick Chow to our very own offensive lineman, Zach Strief, who delighted me with his Spicy Shrimp and Andouille Skewers with Spicy Bourbon earlier this week.
