Fire the Cannons!

Draft Suh and we'll call it even.

It’s comforting to know that after a 3-13 season, the Bucs are willing to make changes. Big changes.
Let’s run through some of them:

1. Hiring Eric Yarber as the new wide receiver’s coach. So let’s recap: Last year, just before the season started, the Bucs fired new offensive coordinator Jeff Jagodzinski, and replaced him with in-over-his-head QB coach Greg Olson.

Then, in the middle of the season, the Bucs fired Defensive Coordinator Jim Bates and Coach Raheem took over. Rah did a significantly better job with the players he had than Bates did, but, you know, he has a few things to focus on as head coach, too.

Hey, How About Some More Bad News?

In one more piece of horrible Bucs news (because there can never be enough!), safety/linebacker/safety Jermaine Phillips was arrested yesterday on domestic battery charges. Domestic battery by strangulation, to be more specific. (See the full story on tbo.com.)

Phillips only played two games this season before being placed on IR. Considering how well the team performed in Phillips’ absence, I fear that the team might keep him. They certainly have been known to keep shady characters on the roster in the past. (Exhibit A: Tight End Jerramy Stevens, whose alleged history with women will seriously make you vomit. Read The Seattle Times report here.)

Hit It & Quit It Bucs-Style: Week 17

This ones for you, Glazer brothers.

This one's for you, Glazer brothers.

To quote Barry Manilow, “Looks like we maaaaade it!”

Yes, I quoted Barry Manilow. Give me a break–I’ve had to find at least one nice thing to say for these Hit It & Quit It posts 16 times this year. My brain is tired.

Anyway, I’m stoked to close the books on this season and look forward to the next one. After listening to a Tampa sports station on online radio, however, I’ve discovered I’m the only person who is looking cautiously optimistically forward. To paraphrase one Chucky Gruden, Jiminey Christmas radio announcers/callers are negative! So, for the sake of end-of-season positivity, let’s just Hit It all.

Team Raheem: It’s Official

The Glazers have officially announced that Raheem Morris will be back as head coach next year.

Based on what I’ve read of the fan reaction thus far, every season ticket holder in Tampa will be forfeiting his/her tickets this offseason.

Bill Cowher was the popular fan choice for head coach, though he never suggested that he was interested in the Tampa job. And let’s face it, it’s a mess of a job right now. Also interesting to note, Cowher won a single Super Bowl in 15 years with the Steelers (a number of SB wins that ties a certain ex-Buc coach whom many fans disliked rather vehemently).

Bucs vs. Saints Preview: Winning on Waivers?

This week, I’m starting the following running backs on my fantasy football team:

Thomas Jones (NYJ)
Jerome Harrison (CLE)
Quinton Ganther (OAK)

Only one of these three players was on my roster 3 weeks ago. (Three guesses which one…) But then my fantasy team is not very good–I made the playoffs thanks to a tie in week 1–and each week, as I face the Chris Johnsons and MJDs of the world, I have to hit the waiver wires to pick up someone, anyone, who might score enough points to help me eke out a win.
