Hit It and Qui…Nah, Just Hit It Bucs-Style: Week 9
I overheard a conversation between two Bucs fans when walking back to the car on Sunday.
One guy: “Yeah! The Bucs are 1-7!”
The other: “1-7! Woo! It’s awesome!”
There was no irony in this conversation. They weren’t being sarcastic. This was two true-blue Bucs fans who were so thrilled to be off the snide, so happy to put the 0-16 fears behind them, and so relieved to have a small glimmer of hope for the rest of the season that they were thrilled–thrilled–to be 1-7.
Orange you glad I didn’t say Buccaneer?
Here’s the good news: I’m going to the game this weekend! I get to see the young Bucs live in all of their wonderful, creamsicle glory, prancing around the field like the swashbuckling dandies that they have proven to be this year.
Here’s the bad news: The Bucs are going to lose.
I mean, ok, there is always a chance the Bucs could win. Any given Sunday, and blah blah blah. But the odds are stacked against the Buccaneers because, well, the Green Bay Packers are the much better team. The Pack has a decent QB in Aaron Rodgers, and his main weakness (holding onto the ball too long) will likely not be exploited by the Bucs’ nonexistent pass rush. Plus, tackles Chad Clifton and Mark Tauscher are back from injury to protect Rodgers this week.
