Hunter’s Day of Hope for Children

This is the second in a series of posts about organizations that are important to current and former Bills. We’re starting with Hunter’s Hope, formed by QB Jim Kelly and his wife Jill that raises awareness about Universal Newborn Screening, a simple process that could have saved their son Hunter’s life.

What makes us love children? Is it their innocence–their as yet uncorrupted view of the world? Is it their vulnerability that gives us a desire to protect them from life, yet at the same time, help them experience it to the fullest? Is it their charm, the funny things they say, the way they mispronounce words or perhaps how an “R” sounds like “W”? Whatever the reason, once someone becomes a parent or crosses the path of a truly special child, we have an innate tendency to love, protect, teach and appreciate.

Hunter: An unexpected hero

This is the first in a series of posts. These posts are just as important, actually even more, as the ones I love to write and y’all love to read during the season. Not only is the off season a time for us fans to recuperate and rev up our delusional expectations for next season, it’s a time to focus on the bigger picture–the people and organizations that are all tangled up in the world of professional football. The things that give the NFL its true value, which goes far beyond supplying superstar careers and weekly entertainment. This first post will introduce you to a little boy who made a ginormous footprint on the world and snuck his way into the hearts of everyone he came across during his eight years on this earth. And who inspired the organization “Hunter’s Hope.”

8 things that have/haven’t happened during training camp ‘09

aaron_maybin_072809_061.dngThe Bills started training camp a week before everyone else, so by now we’re almost two weeks in. We have yet to see if they’ll reap the benefits of this, but a lot has happened…and a lot hasn’t happened. Let’s take a look.

Let’s get our minicamp on–Part 1

minicamp1The first day of sexy, sweaty, sometimes shirtless, spandex clad butts running around Bills minicamp wrapped yesterday and the emphasis was on a no-huddle offense. As my girl Chelsea Handler would say, “I like it, I like it a lot.” What’s so thrilling about a no-huddle offense that can get Bills Chick riled up on this cloudy, sluggish day? Well, it’s the tactic legendary Bills QB Jim Kelly was the king of. That can mean only one thing, which is that this team is serious about revamping their style to become AFC East and NFL contendors–if kickin’ it Buffalo old school (well, ’90s style) is how they’re doing it, so be it.

Happy 50th Anniversary!

50bbjim-kellyThe Bills are celebrating their 50th season this year…that means the team is only a couple years younger than my daddy and that when they put together a 26 member All-Time Team to commemorate the occasion, I had limited memory of most of the players. It’s proven that we can’t dig up memories that happened before the age of four or five, so since I’ve been watching the Bills since way before even that, I’ll try my best to share what I do remember.
