From Bengals to Bye: Packers Recover From Week 4

When a kiddie pool has more depth than your active roster, it’s time for a bye week. My beloved Packers were dropping like flies Sunday as we handed a gift-wrapped victory to the Cincinatti Bengals.  It began with a seemingly accidental yet powerful blow to Jermichael Finley by Bengals Safety George Iloka…then an injured knee on James Starks (who was starting as a backup to previously injured running back Eddie Lacy). Rookie Johnathan Franklin replaced Starks and rushed for 103 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries in his first regular season NFL appearance. Impressive.  But with four minutes left in the the fourth quarter and the game on the line, Franklin fumbled. The fumble and … [Read more...]

No Bags, No Dancing, No Service: The 2013 NFL

In an attempt to take away some game day fun, the NFL instituted some new policies. First off, ladies, you can no longer bring your bags to the games. Instead, the NFL offers this snappy clear tote to hold all your lady-parts accoutrements. Hmmm...stylish and sassy! In addition, the NFL stated, "We are limiting only the type of bags carried into the stadium, not items that you normally bring to a game. Therefore, you can carry in your pockets or jacket keys, makeup, feminine products, comb, phone, wallet, credit cards, etc., if you choose not to put them in a clear bag or clutch. And you can carry a blanket over your arms, and binoculars and/or camera around your neck or in your hands … [Read more...]

Bills look to start the season off right

Excited. Nervous. Overwhelmed. Anxious. Depressed. All words that come to mind when I think about the Bills facing the Jets on Sunday at MetLife Stadium. Why? Excited: Because it's Week 1 of the best season of the year! Football, duh. Nervous: Ditto. Overwhelmed: Ditto, plus I'm easily overwhelmed and it's really hard having so many conflicting emotions all at once. Anxious: I'm going to the game, and granted, I'm going with the best group of Jets fans possible (I'm pretty sure they're the only ones I've ever been able to maintain a functional, lasting relationship with), but I'm mostly worried about the rest of the stadium. By now you know I'm A) dramatic B) unable to keep my … [Read more...]

Bills get some love

Someone DOES love the Bills. Okay, obviously the trusty legion of Bills fans have tragic, unwavering love for the team, but it's more common than not for everyone else to treat them and their fans like the ugly stepchild of the NFL. Unless, of course, that person is New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo. He just announced he was hiring a legal big wig to advise him on how to best keep the Bills a New York team. Ahem, keep the Bills the only New York team. Irwin Raij is a D.C. lawyer who's worked with the MLB, Miami Dolphins and White House. I'm not sure what solutions he's going to come up with (we all know that nobody in owner Ralph Wilson's family wants to adopt the Bills when he passes) but … [Read more...]

My football season started like this…

Everyone's NFL season starts differently. For some, football never ends (I envy your stability). For others, the first day of training camp signals the start of football season. Then, there are those who mark the beginning of the best time of year with preseason. And, for the more fragile (or calm), nothing officially begins until Week 1 kicks off. My NFL 2012-13 has officially started. It happened unexpectedly and out of nowhere. It caught me off guard. I was FAR from prepared. See, I've been in recovery mode since February (really, December) and figured there'd be some decisive, breakthrough-esque moment that told me I was mentally, emotionally, physically prepared for another five months … [Read more...]
