The Eagles Are Who We Thought They Were

Eagles 30, Chargers 33, Sunday, September 15, 2013 After week one, we were all like: "Hey! Maybe the Eagles D isn't too bad!" Nope. Turns out, the Skins are just that bad this year. Stud of the week: Michael Vick, clearly, who had a career day with 428 yards, two thrown TDs, one run TD, and no turnovers. DJax had a good day, too, as did Shady, with a career receiving day. And I love to see DJax blocking - all heart! Sure, there were a few misfires between Vick and Jackson - hard to believe someone could overthrow DJax, but there you are - and an ugly pass to Jason Avant that even Mr. Catches Everything couldn't handle. But normally, you would think that, if your team … [Read more...]

2013 Week 2 Picks

This week, the Eagles host the Chargers in their home opener. I had this one circled on my calendar (well, figuratively speaking anyway - my calendar's electronic) as a W even before the season started. Yes the Chargers hung with the Texans, at least for three quarters, but I didn't see anything that, to me, indicates that they'll be able to overcome their historic problems coming east and playing in the early game, particularly not against the Eagles better-than-expected defense and lightening fast offense. Shoot out? Bring it. Eagles. In the rest of the matchups: Jets at Patriots: I swear I had this one picked before the Pats actually won it (have I mentioned lately … [Read more...]

Eagles: Finding a Way to Win

Eagles v. Ravens, Sunday, September 16, 2012 If 2011 was the year of the Eagles finding a way to lose, perhaps 2012 will be the year of the Eagles finding a way to win? Stud of the week: Despite the fact that he caused one of Vick's picks by whiffing on a tough but not unmakeable catch, I have to go with Brent Celek, who had an otherwise outstanding game, with 8 catches for 157 yards. Also, hurdling Ed Reed is personal highlight reel material. And he had the stones to pop back up and do his first down signal after taking a huge hit from Bernard Pollard that should've drawn a defenseless receiver penalty. Gotta love DJax taking a huge hit from Ed Reed and shrugging it off. And … [Read more...]

2012 Week 2 Picks

This week, the Eagles host the Ravens in their 2012 Linc home opener. I do not have a good feeling about this. Did you see the Ravens whup up on the Bengals last week? Did you see the Eagles barely squeak by the Browns? If the defense can force Joe Flacco to beat them through the air - but then again, shutting down Trent Richardson is a very different proposition than shutting down Ray Rice. If Michael Vick can remember how to play quarterback - but then again Ed Reed is not going to whiff on all the near picks the Browns secondary blew. If LeSean McCoy can have a big day - but then again, Andy Reid dials up a bunch of run plays in what universe exactly? Well, let's just say … [Read more...]

Eagles at Falcons, Sunday, September 18, 2011 Stud of the week: how could it be anyone other than my boy Trent Cole? 5 tackles, an assist, and a sack. And he spent the whole damn game in the Falcons' backfield. He's a beast! I also have to give a major shout out to Mike Kafka. When Vick went down on what was just a truly unfortunate play - no cheap shot or anything, just bad luck - Kafka was in a tough spot. I actually yelled: "Our season has become Kafka-esque!" And while the coaches had to simplify the playbook down to about 1 page, still, Kafka, had the team in position to win the game if it wasn't for Jeremy Maclin's inexplicable 4th down drop. Gotta make that catch, … [Read more...]
