Eagles: Total Domination

Eagles 49, Raiders, 20, Sunday, November 3, 2013 Who knew Nick Foles decided to go as Peyton Manning for Halloween, and then, just like in Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 2, episode 6, "Halloween," he turned into his costume? Stud of the week: uh, Nick Foles. Career day. Literally. Tied the NFL record for TD passes (with 7 others) and no picks (with only 2 others). Only QB ever to throw for 7 TDs AND end the game with a perfect passer rating. It was bananas. He had more TDs than incomplete passes. You know how watching Shady is often like watching Madden? Watching Foles was EXACTLY like watching Madden. Who knew that getting a concussion would turn out to be a GOOD thing? … [Read more...]

2013 NFL Week 9 Picks

Happy Halloween, y'all! Do the Birds have a trick or a treat in store for fans Sunday? Well, they're traveling to Oakland to face the Raiders. Now, normally, road games are a bad thing for middling-to-bad teams like the Eagles. They need that little boost of the home crowd and home stadium to have a chance. But not our boys. Playing on the road is actually a mark in their favor. Sigh. And it's official: Nick Foles is back. With Vick still gimpy and Captain Turnover as the Birds' only other option, that's a good thing, too. The Raiders have a mid-pack passing defense, but a top five rushing defense. That's a bad thing. In order for the Eagles to win, they'll need a … [Read more...]

“They are who we thought they were.”

Eagles v. Bears, Monday, November 7, 2011 "They are who we thought they were." Not the Bears, of course. I didn't have a strong opinion of the Bears prior to last night, other than: "Matt Forte or LeSean McCoy - who's harder to stop?" and "Brian Urlacher is a really good linebacker. I wonder what it's like to have a really good linebacker? That must be nice." No, I'm talking about the Eagles. I quote Tommy Lawlor: "There is something off with this team." Stud of the Week: I was going to go with Brent Celek for a little variety. Then Shady tied Steve van Buren's record for consecutive games with a touchdown. So once again, Shady wins Stud of the Week. He's my secret … [Read more...]

2011 Week 9 Picks

This week, the Eagles will face the Bears on Monday Night Football. Two prime time games in a row! YAY, but also some of us have DAY JOBS y'all! I have to admit, in the McNabb era, I tended to worry about night games. If you've been reading this blog for any amount of time, you know I have always been a huge Big5 fan. But DMac was often not as his best in the prime time games. Maybe it was the pressure. Maybe he's a morning person. I don't know. What I do know is that night games left me nervous. Add to that Matt Forte. The Eagles have the #19 ranked run defense. Somehow, I think the #19 ranked run defense is going to have some problems with Matt Forte. Add to that Devin … [Read more...]

2010 Week 9 Picks

New Picking System, Week 2: the Return of 12 of 13 (I hope) Andy Reid is in his 12th season as head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. So far, he's 11-0 the week after the bye, including 2005, aka The Rearranging Deck Chairs on the Hindenberg season. Mike Vick will be back under center, hopefully sporting some sort of super special Under Armor that can repel knives, bullets, and Dwight Freeney. DeSean Jackson is likely to return to the lineup, hopefully sporting a helmet made of magic clouds that will prevent him from becoming 2010's Brian Westbrook. Then again, Big Red is also 0-3 against the Colts. And McNabb's Redskins lost the Colts (that just feels relevant to me, but I'm not … [Read more...]
